We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Castella. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Castella below.
Castella, appreciate you joining us today. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I liken it to preaching… this journey has been a calling. Many preachers try to avoid their calling until they are thrusted into it. Well, that’s my story! I’ve been a singer for as long as I can remember, but it wasn’t until a chance meeting with a legitimate record producer that the realities of singing, songwriting and ultimately creating my own record label and publishing company came into play. I did have the misfortune of losing my cooshy executive job… it was at that moment that I knew, it was a moment I had to seize. I went for the dream rather than hopping back into the rat race. It was probably the riskiest move I’ve ever made. But my passion for my music and the connections I’ve made with so many have fueled my journey and there’s no turning back now!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am singer, songwriter, international recording artist – Castella! I have a passion for writing, creating and singing songs. I am the CEO of my own record label – Castella Music. We’ve been around for almost 5 years now and we’ve been cranking out the hits! I am prominent in the Smooth Jazz, Soul and R&B genres. Although my foundation is in the church – good ole gospel music. I am most proud of starting from literally nothing and building a brand to what it is today. We are still growing, but when I stop and look back, I’ve truly made significant progress.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
My recording artist career began one year before I unfortunately, lost my long term job. It was quite devastating as my stability and income were suddenly gone. Rather than ball up and cry my eyes out, I was encouraged by my family and my producer Darryl Swann to go after the music career because I could always get an HR job, but a moment like this only comes once in a lifetime. I had to encourage myself to not give up on me. I had to and still have to tell myself that I am good at what I do. With this, I had to also tell myself that it’s never too late to go after passions and dreams. I have a natural gift within me and God lined up the universe for me to operate within it.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist is touching others. Singing a song that touches someone somewhere in their spirit or writing a lyric they can relate to personally, also being a part of special moments in life – they are often surrounded by music..
