We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Cassie Karopkin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Cassie below.
Cassie, appreciate you joining us today. If you had a defining moment that you feel really changed the trajectory of your career, we’d love to hear the story and details.
I was working at my first small private colonic business location that I opened at the age of 23. Inside a large acupuncture studio space with many rooms, the owner had rented one room to me and allowed me to do some plumbing and minor renovation. My business had grown quite a lot in that small space. Two years later, the owner decided not to renew my lease. I made the decision in that defining moment to take the leap and open up and renovate a full wellness space on my own. I realized that I did not have a specific plan, but I was fearless enough to sign a five-year lease and start my first (much larger) renovation project. My broker was very helpful in showing me the possibilities of how I could build and lay out the space and rent some of the rooms out to other wellness professionals in order to supplement the NYC rent. The way the place looked was very rundown and it was hard to imagine what was possible, but I trusted in the process and did not consider the option that it might not work out. He helped me to create a vision, and I kept my focus on that vision until the renovation was finished, tenants slowly filled the rooms, And clients began to fill the schedule. The new space had a second treatment room for me to use so I hired one of my clients who had been interested for a long time. That was about 10 years ago. The space has been flourishing ever since.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Cassie Karopkin and I am a colon hydrotherapy and a business owner. When I had my first Colonic experience when I was 21 years old it changed my life and the course of my career completely. I had never heard of a Colonic before, but I had recently become vegan and was reading that it was a very beneficial tool in various wellness books that I had discovered. I was leaning into a world of nutrition as well and when I had my first Colonic appointment, everything clicked in those moments. I realized that my passion for wellness and plant based nutrition Was directly connected to this practice, and this would ultimately be the best way to make an impact. I decided that same day to quit my job and change career paths after just a few months of working in a corporate position, right after graduating with a math degree.
Some of the things that set me apart in my practice are my passion for this work and how I am able to channel that into supporting clients through their health journeys. I have a strong intuition with the body when it comes to encouraging it to Release old toxins, helping my clients relax and enjoy the process, educating them on nutrition, and helping to forge that connection between what’s coming out and what has been going in, this work allows me to support clients in becoming more mindful overall about their wellbeing and why any of it matters, Including why it matters in the big picture in the ecological and ethical sense as well. I am most proud of having a positive impact on so many people through my work and how that ripples out into their families and friends. I am so passionate about personal and environmental wellness I believe that my work is an incredible avenue to discover that connection and encourages people to make the changes that help us move in that direction collectively.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Here’s a revised version:
I had to unlearn the idea of following a traditional path and instead learned to listen to my heart as I navigated my career. I chose an unconventional career, but one that I was passionate about, and I trusted that instinct. I made sure not to seek advice from friends and family, knowing it might cause me to overthink or stray from my path. Ultimately, by trusting my intuition and following my heart, I’ve been able to channel that love and passion into my chosen business and succeed.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
Absolutely. I have found endless joy and nourishment in this profession and it has allowed me to impact many clients along the way. I am so grateful to have chosen something I love to do, being that so much of my time has been devoted to it, and that the value is appreciated be clients every day.
