Have you ever felt that way?
Imagine it’s a busy Friday morning at Beachside Wax and Glow. The phone hasn’t stopped ringing since 8 a.m., appointments are fully booked for the day, and you’re running between clients trying to stay on schedule. Then, out of nowhere, the power goes out, and the Wi-Fi dies. You’re mid-way through a lash lift, and everything comes to a screeching halt. Clients are anxious because they have places to be, and you can’t reschedule because you’re already fully booked for the next two weeks.
In moments like that, the thought might creep in: Wouldn’t it be easier to just have a regular job? You know, clocking in and out, having weekends off, and not being responsible for every little detail going wrong? That security and predictability can seem so appealing when you’re in the thick of an unexpected business hiccup.
But then, as you step back and take a breath, you remember why you started this journey. The flexibility to create your own hours, the relationships you’ve built with loyal clients, the creative freedom to shape the business as you envision it—it all starts to come back to you. You realize that even in these stressful moments, being a business owner allows you to thrive in a way that a regular job might not.
Sure, those thoughts arise, but the conclusion often leads to a deeper appreciation for the hard work and freedom entrepreneurship provides.

Hi, I’m Cassandra Vilicich, and I’m the owner of Beachside Wax and Glow, a small beauty studio that focuses on waxing, sugaring, lash lifts, and permanent jewelry. I’ve always been passionate about skincare and beauty, and after working in the industry for years, I decided to take the leap and start my own business.
My journey began when I realized that people often struggled to find high-quality, reliable beauty services that also felt personal and welcoming. I had been working in salons and beauty studios for a while, but I wanted to create a space that truly focused on individual care and results. That’s when I started Beachside Wax and Glow, a place where people can feel comfortable, confident, and taken care of.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
When I started Beachside Wax and Glow, I knew social media would be a powerful tool for connecting with clients and promoting my business, but I didn’t have a lot of experience. I began with Instagram because it’s such a visual platform, which is perfect for showcasing beauty services like waxing and lash lifts. At first, it was just about posting photos of my work and interacting with people in the beauty community.
For anyone just starting to build a social media presence, my biggest piece of advice is to stay consistent and be patient. Growth doesn’t happen overnight, but if you keep showing up, it will come. Also, engage with your audience—social media is meant to be interactive, so don’t just post and leave.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has definitely been word of mouth and client referrals. When people have a great experience, they’re eager to share it with friends, family, or even on social media, and that personal recommendation carries a lot of weight
Social media has also been a powerful tool. My Instagram page, where I post before-and-after shots, client testimonials, and updates on services, has brought in a lot of clients. Many people first find me through hashtags or location-based searches, and they’ll reach out through Instagram to book an appointment.
Another great source of clients has been hosting pop-ups for permanent jewelry and collaborating with local businesses. These events are a great way to meet new people, and they often bring in clients who then become regulars.
