Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carly Haupert. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Carly, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
As long as I can remember I have always wanted to create & own my own business. There was never a question about whether I would go down the entrepreneurial avenue, however, as the far off dream started to become a reality, the fear started to increase. When I graduated from college, I got my first job in real estate & although it was a pivotal learning experience, it ultimately was not where I wanted to be. The first risk I took in my career was leaving an industry that I knew well and was comfortable in (real estate) as my dad was in the industry as well and that was truly all I knew. I made the decision to purse a career in health/wellness because I knew that is where my true passion lied. I began the health coaching certification & finally jumped off the cliff to quit my real estate job, move to NY, and begin working under a health/ wellness pioneer. After a year of learning under my mentor, I jumped off another cliff to start my own business, The Carly Cure. Going out on my own was terrifying but something I knew was necessary for me to live out my deepest desires and purpose. The journey has been the furthest thing from easy but it has been the most rewarding experience of my life. I have been able to connect with so many like-minded individuals and help women discover their bio-individuality / feel empowered in their bodies.

Carly, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Carly Haupert, an Institute of Integrative Nutrition holistic health coach focusing on women’s health. I founded The Carly Cure because growing up I was always passionate about all things health/wellness but as I got older, the noise of the media and unrealistic expectations of women started creeping in which left me feeling confused, defeated, and insecure. I tried every fad diet out there and killed myself in the gym thinking that was my answer. I quickly discovered that torturing myself was not going to breed the health, confidence, and peace I was searching for. So I started investing my time into understanding my unique body and I loved the idea that we are all uniquely made so I decided to get to know what fueled my unique body. I experimented with different foods and forms of exercise with no judgement attached to truly find what worked for me. I then enrolled in IIN (Institute of Integrative Nutrition) to learn the tools and information needed so that I could help others do the same. Through this program I found peace, freedom, self-love, and overall better quality of life than I ever thought was possible. At the Carly Cure, we offer a one-on-one coaching program that focuses on holistic health. We emphasize your bio-individuality — the idea that we are all uniquely different. With one on one support and accountability, we tailor each session to your personalized needs and will collaborate to discover what method works best for you to help you reach and exceed all of your health and wellness goals. Our sessions are a space for you to be seen and heard and an opportunity to quiet all the outside noise and tune into your body and its needs. Together we will find your cure!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
A time when I had to pivot in life was instrumental in me getting into the health/wellness field when I did. After I graduated college, I took the summer off to backpack South East Asia & Australia with my two best friends. While I was there, I became very sick & ended up getting diagnosed with gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining). For some context, I went to undergrad in NYC and had planned to move back there after I completed my travels, however life had a different path for me and since I got really sick overseas, I knew I needed to be at home with family in CA and see my personal drs to figure out what was going on. Throughout my time seeing various Drs and learning about how to heal my gastritis, I ended up working for my best friends mom so that I could get by during that time. While my job at the time was in real estate, all my free time was spent researching health/wellness. While my original plan was to move to NY and get a job in marketing as that was what my degree was in, I ended up pivoting to be at home and get a job in real estate. This pivot was instrumental as being able to be at home gave me the time to not only reflect but dedicate more time into researching and learning about the body, nutrition, exercise, etc due to my health issues. If it weren’t for my health issues and my time spent investigating/ exploring more into health/wellness, I would not of learned how passionate I was about it & how lit up I was learning about it. So all in all, getting sick in Asia made me pivot to move home which then gave me the opportunity to reflect on where my passions really lied and lead me to enroll in school and then start my own health coaching business. If it weren’t for me being open to pivoting from my original plans, I wouldn’t be able to work a job I love everyday and help others find their cure!

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I’ve had to unlearn is to never ask for help. Growing up I was always hyper independent and believed that I needed to do everything on my own. I quickly learned in starting a business, that I was never going to be able to get to where I wanted to be if I didn’t delegate projects/tasks to others and ask for help. My company would not be where it is today if I didn’t ask friends, friends of friends, old co-workers, etc for help. It takes a village to run a successful business and although it’s something I continually struggle with, asking for help, has been the best lesson I’ve learned. A specific scenario of when asking for help was instrumental in the growth of my company was during the launch of my company. Throughout the process of my launch, I had to ask old work contacts to help with donating products for a PR box I was creating for my launch, I had to ask friends for their network contacts with influencers/brands, and had to ask network contacts to get coffee & get their advice on starting their own business. If I hadn’t asked for help, the PR boxes to launch my business would not of been nearly as successful as it was. I was able to get influencers that I had looked up to for years posting my brand and products that I have used religiously were donated to be in my company’s PR box. None of this would have been possible without asking for help.
