We recently connected with Carlito Black and have shared our conversation below.
Carlito, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
I’ve taken so many risks in my life to survive. Selling Drugs, Robbing, Traveling across the cross to play football as a walk-on with no guarantees of a scholarship or even making the team, and more. Coming from nothing and having nothing has been my greatest gift in life. When it comes to risk I only see what I can gain cause I have nothing to lose. Moving to Atlanta to start my rap career without a car, without a job, without a place to sleep or a dime to my name was the best risk for my career. Even after getting all those things, I chose to be homeless so I can use my rent money to invest in my career. I risk my livelihood and still didn’t get the results I wanted. But I did get what I needed. I got undeniable confident I needed to stop asking and looking for opportunities and start creating them. I needed to know that I can make it regardless of the circumstances. It felt like I got thrown to the wolves and I came back with a fur coat. Until you put all your chips on the table and call your own bluff, you don’t know what you are willing to do to win. I burned all my money, I put in my time, and I betted on myself. That risk is why I’m emerging as one of the biggest names in Miami. The streets know the risk I took and respect the move. I’m home making my imprint
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I feel like the best way to inspire others is to be inspired. Building something, representing these f*cked up circumstances, winning when I’m not post too makes me more passionate about rapping and creating brands. I think that type of burning desire is contagious. It satisfies my soul making hopeless people know you can impose your will on life.
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
I think the importance of NFTs is understanding what it represents, and what that change means for the future. It’s about embracing wild ideas and unorthodox approaches. The landscape is changing. As a creative intellectual property is my goldmine, I love direction and what it means for my people. The hood creates all the trends in pop culture. This is our opportunity to capitalize on the same shit they deem as ghetto but steal from our culture
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Recently one of my childhood best friends (Antwon Cooper) was shot in the back of the head at point-blank range for not having a license by Miami-PD. My best friend/brother was stabbed and killed. The majority of my friends from my neighborhood are in prison, Rappersare getting shot every other day for the pettiest reasons. But I’m still here. I have exceptional talent and I’ve dodged so many bullets, literally and figuratively speaking, I feel obligated to be something bigger than ordinary, This journey, this story can’t be in vain. I feel like the mission given to me is to make it count.
