Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Carissa Glanton. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Carissa, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
Previous to opening The Selfie Showroom I was doing photography for 13 years. I specialize in birthday glamour portraits and loved creating sets and scenes for my clients photo shoots. My studio could only host a couple sets at a time so I did have to consistently break down my beautiful scenes to create new ones. Being a photographer has it’s times where your schedule can get overwhelming, I didn’t have enough supply to meet the demand and any interference, such as sickness, could result in a downfall of my career. The year that covid stopped operations I realized that I needed to revaluate a new business that could take in the volume and demand, thus birthing The Selfie Showroom, selfie museum and photography studio.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
In my journey, I became inspired to create a space where more people can build content and have fun taking photos. The Selfie Showroom selfie museum provided an environment where people of all ages could enjoy a day of selfies and memories in whimsical scenes! A selfie museum is like a studio that is designed for all levels of photography starting with the smart phone but not limited to professional photographers, video shoots, birthday parties and much more. Our 2400 sq ft venue filled with 20 creative scenes for all your selfie adventures! Periodically we host outdoor pop up events to bring awareness to various local businesses and bring the community together for positive fun.
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
Starting out on the pursuit to open The Selfie Showroom I was unfortunately hit with the loss of physical support with decorating. This was such a big dream for me and I already invested so much into it that I could not turn back. So I started to build the scenes and decor by myself. It was a lonely season for me, I didn’t have many people that could help but I had faith that God was going to make a way. I was successfully able to finish up 90% of the scene work on my own, it was the most challenging time of my life but I now see all the people who are enjoying what I have built, and it provides me with so much fulfilment!
How did you build your audience on social media?
Majority of my audience on social media are organic followers of my previous photography work. They loved seeing my creative ideas and showed so much love for my craft. Developing from that I have grown a following of DIY and craft lovers and people who are intrigued by the selfie museum industry!
