We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carina Fagiani a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Carina, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about when you first realized that you wanted to pursue a creative path professionally.
I firmly believe that ones purpose can show at a young age if you pay close attention to what you’re energetically drawn to. I’ve been an artist for as long as i can remember and my life goal was always to be a fashion designer. While having an interest In fashion design always came naturally to me, in high school I began doing my own hair as well as the hair of my friends. I later learned how much joy it brought me and my love for making people feel confident drove me to start a career in hair design instead!
Carina, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Shortly after high school in 2013, I attended Paul Mitchell the School in Los Angeles where I was born and raised! After receiving my license I worked in West Hollywood at a drybar salon where I learned the ins and outs of styling and working in a fast paced environment. While part time assisting in beverly hills I would consistently practice on friends and family while also taking my own in-home styling clients. There were many moments in my career that I worried about my next paycheck but with discipline and dedication all of my hard work paid off with full books at my current NYC salon. I provide several services including but not limited to cuts, color and extensions. I specialize in textured bobs and low maintenance/ lived in blondes. My clients love me for my low maintenance services and only see me 2 or 3 times a year for their lived in highlight looks.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of being a creative is being able to give each client a completely customizable new look they’ve always dreamed of. Everyday is met with new challenges and amazing new people along the way. The fact that I am able to make people fall in love with themselves and provide them with a confidence boost for a living will always be the driving force in my career.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Little ways to support would be to tell your friends! Spread the word! My favorite thing ever is when my clients post selfies or tag me in their hair videos. It means a lot to even just talk to people about where you got your hair done or hand out my card!
