Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Cara Singletary. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Cara, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Alright, so you had your idea and then what happened? Can you walk us through the story of how you went from just an idea to executing on the idea
My friend (now business partner) Shay approached me with the business idea to start a web design company. Even though we both were building websites for friends and family in our individual lives I wasn’t on board with the idea initially. At the time, web design was more of a hobby, something to do on the side from time to time. Over the next couple of years, Shay would revisit the idea. Once the pandemic hit, I had a change of heart, and wanted to explore the idea. This led to Shay and I joining forces to start ShaCa Gurus®. The process involved us learning about forming an LLC, state/federal laws, and coming up with a name. We spent ample time on the last part. We really wanted to have a name that was both meaningful and unique across all platforms. After getting the foundational pieces in place we started carving out our business infrastructure and services. This involved more research to understand what systems would work best for us internally and what systems would work best for our clients. At this point, we were ready to officially launch our business.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
I met Shay in college in an engineering class. I realized she was quickly picking up on the material in class so I asked her when she would be in the library so I could study with her. We were always in the library. During this time we were more like study buddies than friends. I didn’t pay attention to it like this at the time, but recognizing how determined we both were navigating our engineering program has continued into our professional lives. We worked together so much in college that when we launched ShaCa Gurus® we were confident in each others abilities, drive, and resilience.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our customer service has tremendously helped our reputation within our market. Our clients oftentimes express how grateful they are for how we’ve been able to help them in their business/organization. This has resulted in a lot of our new clients coming from referrals. Customer satisfaction has been one of our goals from day one, and we work very hard to stay true to that vision.
