We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Candice Davies a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Candice, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I am all for calling in help, getting support, hiring a VA and building out a team because there are always a gazillion things on any online business owners to do list, but completely outsourcing your social media is not something I would ever recommend handing over,
Let me clarify.
I have worked with enough online business owners to know that things like knowing what to post, when to post, how often to post and how to make content that converts – is mind bending. And because so many business owners feel completely lost, confused and overwhelmed when it comes to their social media, they would prefer to throw a bit of money at it and hand it over for someone else to worry about.
The thing is no one knows your offer and your audience better than you do. And while getting clarity on how to create a solid social content strategy can require a lot of time, effort and mental application it is in essence your entire lead generation and marketing strategy. And it is my opinion that this is a core element of your business and one that you – as the business owner – needs to be in control of.
So my opinion is to learn about creating content that converts, remaining in control of the execution and if you can afford to, then calling in help with the implementation.

Candice, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Candice Davies. I help online business owners with a course or coaching group create better social content so that they can get more of their followers into their paid program.
I am a high energy and passionate online business owner myself and consider myself to be a straight shooter, there’s no fluff or BS with me.
I’m a quick action taker and a serial learner, so all my trainings and programs are about helping other online business owners to take action and to learn from my mistakes so that they can short cut the learning curve and the amount of mistakes they have to make themself.
I like to laugh and have fun with the people I work with, but … I am serious about delivering on my promises. I am a firm believer in taking things step by step, so that you gain confidence and see that the world of social media isn’t as daunting as you think it is, if you know what to do.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Most people think they need huge numbers and a massive audience of followers before they can launch their offers. I have a very small following but consistent 4 – 5 figure months, Proof that the number of followers you have does not always reflect your business revenue.
If you’re just starting out, my advice would be to create content that immediately establishes you as someone to listen to and someone who knows what she’s talking about.
In order to do this, I would get clear on:
– who I am wanting to attract as a follower
– what 1 offer I have to help them solve 1 problem
and then create video content that is heavy with topical authority and an understanding of the psychology of people
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A big thing I had to re-train my brain to think was: who I am to be doing this to … why not me?
For so long I avoided getting myself on video and creating content for my own business. I was more comfortable doing it for other people, until I realised that you simply cannot grow or scale a business if you are invisible.
