We were lucky to catch up with Cameryn Plemons recently and have shared our conversation below.
Cameryn, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you have any advice regarding quality control and maintaining quality as your brand grows?
As my business has grown, I have been able to attract my ideal clients which has been so fun. But, being a college student, I also have been able to market myself to those around campus. From the big clients to those who just need LinkedIn headshots, I provide the same quality of work from shooting to editing, down to the client experience. I shoot until both the client and I are happy with what we have, and I never change the effort of work I put into a gallery in post-production.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Cameryn Plemons and I am a photographer based in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas/Abilene, Texas. I first got into photography my freshman year of high school as just something that was fun and kind of trendy, and it turned into a true passion and a way I love to serve others. Something about me is that my client experience truly is more than just taking a pretty photo. It’s creating something that provokes emotion–a moment frozen in time that when you look back on it, you truly feel something. Photography to me is all about seeing beauty in the big, the little, and the in between. My goal with my work is to capture raw moments and emotions. To show the great, beautiful diversity our world has to offer. But more than anything, I want to have eyes like Jesus—the eyes that see those on the margins, and let’s them know they have a seat at the table, so they most certainly have a place on my camera roll. I love that my work evokes emotion and tells a story in ways that words can’t. The minimal, warm, neutral, look of my brand is something I have worked hard on and truly am proud of.
Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was the idea of one-click edits. I see a lot of people get a preset and think that it is a one click fix to their photo and that simply is not the case. For a long time I did this and things were always off with my photos. Until I took the time to 1) Learn my camera settings and truly have full control of my photos in-camera and 2) Learn Lightroom and know the tools it has to produce the product that I want. Now, I spend a lot of time with each image I edit to get it just right and it has taken my work to the next level.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Something that helped me build my reputation within the market is that I truly believe that everyone deserves to have photos that are high quality, beautiful, and make them feel beautiful. Every client gets a personal experience that is fun, relational, and truly captures real moments. I even have several clients who have turned into great personal friends!
