We caught up with the brilliant and insightful C.J. Syas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi C.J. , thanks for joining us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Our past doesn’t define our future. I dropped out of community college my first semester because of my addiction. I accumulated five felonies, fourteen trips to treatment, went to prison four times, experienced homelessness, and burnt bridges from this point up until my clean/sobriety date of July 3rd 2019. There were times I would ask God “Why me? Why do I have to go through all this?” It all makes sense today. This provided me lived experience = wisdom to help others suffering. Today I am not only the cofounder of Mantra Recovery, but I also work for a withdrawal management program at a hospital.

C.J. , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Mantra Recovery services are interventions (crisis/substance use disorder), wellness coaching, safe transport, family support, and complimentary treatment guidance. We have a 100% success rate with our interventions. There are multiple path ways to recover and heal. We walk hand in hand with our clients navigating them to a treatment plan that will be conducive to their holistic health. Mind, Body, and Spirit.
Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I know exactly what it’s like to lose everything, relapse, be homeless, not be able to find employment because criminal background, and feel hopeless. I put my heart & soul into helping others heal as I am still healing. Transparency and authenticity has definitely earned me respect with my colleagues.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I first met Adam Tripp at Turtle Creek Recovery Center. He was an employee there & I was client in treatment. He gave me hope even I came & went several times. The irony of all this is we reconnected and created Mantra Recovery back in 2021 when I was working at Turtle Creek Recovery Center with the same job title he once had as Facility Manager.
