We recently connected with Bryanna Moneé and have shared our conversation below.
Bryanna , thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Was there a moment in your career that meaningfully altered your trajectory? If so, we’d love to hear the backstory.
One of the most defining and profound moments in my professional career was showing up for myself even when odds were against me. A moment that changed the trajectory of my career was when the med spa that I previously employed at shut down. As a newly and determined esthetic grad, I thought I made it by accomplishing one of my goals/dreams as working as a licensed esthetician in a med spa. You hear so many great stories and how much money you can make , however that dream got caught short with reality. Unfortunately, my experience was no where near a pot of gold. I remember vividly one day having a panic attack after having a heated meeting with my manager and boss. My parents had to pick me up in a parking lot to bring me home because I was blinded by the toxic occurring situations that lead to my mental health deterring. Although my experience with clients were memorable , I can’t say the same for my work environment. I had to endure jealousy, malice and condescending behavior, dishonesty, unprofessionalism , defamation , theft , and more. No matter how many times I tried to bring these issues up , my concerns were dismissed. I was constantly being attacked and belittled , solely because I was shining brighter than my reflection that I saw in the mirror. My experience pushed me to educate myself on my craft deeper. I studied online none stop and attended excessive trainings and seminars with the machine’s company. I practiced and constantly had talks with my mentor. I remained kind , prayed and never stepped out of character. I stayed resilient, faithful , humble and eager to learn. In the end , my actions rewarded me to where I stand today as a lead medical aesthetician at TWO med spas. I always showed up with a smile on my face even on the days I was hurting. My mannerism was always professional and it truly molded me into the aesthetician I am today. A great leader has to be a good follower , you write your own story.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My esthetics career was born from my first love of doing makeup. For those who don’t know , makeup saved my life. From constantly getting bullied , I used makeup as a coverup to disguise my insecurities. After building a business as an Atlanta makeup artist for the past 11 years , I stepped into a new evolution of skincare. The same passion I have for makeup I grew for esthetics. I just love making people feel confident! Not only am I able to paint a canvas with my skills , I’m able to clear skin as well! Going into the med spa industry has a changed my life for the good! I love connecting , growing , and building relationships with new individuals who trust me enough to service them. Whether that’s corrective skincare , body enhancements or laser hair removal, they trust ME to get the job done. I feel like what sets me apart from other aestheticians is my personality and genuineness . I don’t know how not to be myself and that’s being a real individual. I look at my clients as people and not a money sign. My patients can feel the passion behind every session. That’s why they come back or follow me wherever I go. Those type of aestheticians are hard to come by. In addition, I’m knowledgeable. I learn something new everyday and as I continue to learn my clients learn as well. I’m proud of myself for coming out on top when I was under looked. I know my worth , I just needed to keep going until I found a company that values it. For potential clients , I want them to know that they will always have a place called home.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Being authentic will take you far in this industry. People like people who are relatable , not someone who tries to paint a perfect picture that doesn’t exist. Authenticity allows you to build genuine connections and genuine connections build long term clients. Me just taking an extra 10 minutes into a session to just listen to a client and be empathetic has allowed me to generate over 1k in sales off of 1 client, it matters. I do it not because of the money but because I care. I’m understanding and I treat people how I would want to be treated. In a worth filled with evil , genuineness is like a rare diamond, it’s free to be kind.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could go back , yes , I would choose the samd profession however I would’ve started earlier. I would’ve attended a career academy my senior year of highschool to get advance credits and then go into esthetic school right after highschool to get a head start. Everything happens for a reason
