We recently connected with Brooke Emory and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
There are three turning points in my career and they are all a product of taking a risk. I believe that if you really want to make a difference, you must have the courage to dive in headfirst and have the confidence in yourself that you will land on your feet. Your drive must be greater than your fear, the only person that can make that decision is you.
I am going to split this question up into three segments. The first is the start of my career as a Professional Backup Dancer. At the age of 15, I started my career and began traveling to Los Angeles, CA from my hometown in Solon, Ohio. Instead of taking the “safe” route of finishing a normal high school life that led to college, I decided to move across the country to Los Angeles, by myself, to take on my dreams. Starting my career at such an early age forced me to grow up fast. But, taking the risk not only allowed me to fulfill my dance dreams, but also paved the way for my future.
The second hurdle I jumped over was moving to New York City from Los Angeles to take on my career as a fashion designer. I again chose to move to the hub of the industry, which in this case, is the ‘Big Apple’. In my mind, the only way to know your potential is to surround yourself with the best. The reward is always greater than the risk and I was able to prove that point for a second time.
The third turning point in my career was listening to my heart and putting my happiness first. This is the most difficult risk of them all. I knew I had to be helping others for a living and the best way I know how is through movement and motivation. Many of us find ourselves in fear of leaving a comfortable or secure corporate position but, at the end of the day, happiness is all that matters. This was the best decision of them all, however, taking risks in both dance and fashion gave me the courage to step into my best self. My best self is helping others live the happiest and healthiest lives through fitness, wellness, and love.
Are you willing to take the risk?
Brooke, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am an International Fitness Consultant and Motivational Speaker. As we speak, I am in the process of launching the BeYou Movement. This is a compilation of all my experiences including dance, design, movement, and wellness. We are an inclusive, global community in pursuit of wellness. We will be offering memberships that include podcasts with the best wellness professionals around the globe, product discount codes, apparel, live experiences and more. Our goal is to give access to movement and wellness practices no matter the age, location, lifestyle, or soul. We believe that sharing the benefits of holistic methods should have no limitations. With unlimited resources, support, and motivation, we can all become our best.
Along with BeYou, I am a consultant for Motosumo, a livestream and on-demand cycling app available to any bike, anywhere. I have instructors located all over the world and oversee everything seen on camera. To give back to the community, I launched my own bakery called Brooke’s Bakery where we donate to Mental Health Awareness Organizations with every order made. We offer vegan, gluten-free, nut free, and traditional cookies, truffles, dipped strawberries, and custom orders.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
The core of any business is the people who make the dream the reality. Your team is single-handedly the most important part of any business; it will make or break you. One of my passions is mentorship, which is why I love helping others reach their fullest potential and find this extremely beneficial when managing my team. Your team is the most important aspect in helping make your dream come true, my advice is to constantly check in with them and to appreciate them for their act of service. In my experience, the foundation in creating a successful team must be one of full transparency and honesty with each other, prioritizing mental health, and consistently providing feedback (both positive and growth-oriented). We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I have a love/dislike relationship with social media. I find the content on the platforms to be challenging for those struggling with body image and a work/life balance. On the other hand, I find the platform to be very beneficial for connecting with others, reading inspiring quotes and gaining useful wellness tips. My social media channels are designed to share my story, motivate through my passions, and connect with others on a deep level. I found my business-oriented and heart-driven mindset to be helpful in building my community.
If you are on social media, My advice is to stay true to yourself and just #BEyou. You were put on this universe to share your story and shine your light. There is enough love to share for all!
