We were lucky to catch up with Brooke Becker recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brooke, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you tell us the backstory behind how you came up with the idea?
I began my screenwriting consulting and editing business Scribe Hive in order to support creatives through the process of story and script development. I have been working professionally in entertainment as an actor and a writer for over ten years. Through my work, which includes working as a development intern with some of the top production companies in Los Angeles, I have read hundreds of scripts. Many of these scripts were wonderful, but many of them contained structural and grammatical errors that should have been corrected before finding their way into my hands.
After doing freelance screenplay consulting work for a few years, I was inspired to launch my own business in order to help more actors and writers create their own content that they can present proudly!

Brooke, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I began acting professionally at age 17 and since then have appeared in projects such as The Dropout, Grown-ish, and Head of the Class. I co-wrote a feature film which is currently in development and also co-produced the stage play An Evening with Humans of New York. Most recently, I was a staff writer on season one of the show Parallel from Seasick Studios which is completed with production, and I am in process with an original series that I am developing.
As an actor, I love a wide range of genres and characters. As a writer and lover of film, I am personally most drawn to stories that explore the enormous range in human behavior and emotion, character-driven dramas and comedies, and female-driven horror and thrillers.

Do you think there is something that non-creatives might struggle to understand about your journey as a creative? Maybe you can shed some light?
I think that something people who aren’t in the entertainment business may not understand is the amount of rejection and unpaid labor that we face, especially early in our careers. I have done unpaid short films, web series, and indie films for copy and credit in order to build my resume, all the while spending money on class and headshots (as most actors do at the beginning of their careers). I am now lucky enough to be able to accept only paid union jobs, but it generally takes an actor between 7-10 years on average to book their first large credit–that’s a lot of rejection and unpaid work!
Writers, including myself, often write on spec, which means that it hasn’t been commissioned by a studio (and is therefore unpaid until the screenplay is purchased, or created and sold). It takes a lot of resilience to be in this business, and I am so inspired by my fellow creatives every day!
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love creating work that inspires and resonates with others. Films, television, and plays have changed my life, and I can only hope to contribute to the enrichment of someone else’s life in a similar way!
