We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Brittny Winston. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Brittny below.
Brittny , appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us about a time that your work has been misunderstood? Why do you think it happened and did any interesting insights emerge from the experience?
Sometimes I do feel my work has been misunderstood or mischaracterized. I feel this way because there has been a time where people think modeling is just all fun. I even had someone tell me I’m “wilding out”. Modeling is actually a job. I mean yeah, I do have fun, but it’s not all glam, glitter, and entertainment. You have to work hard in the modeling industry. I have learned not to take people seriously when they say negative things about my modeling. I work hard for my dreams and passions. I believe my hard work shows in my modeling.

Brittny , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Brittny Winston aka Nellie J. I have many hats I wear, but the one I hold near and dear to my heart is mother. I’m a small-town girl. My hometown is Danville, IL. I’m a plus size model currently living in Atlanta, GA. I’m experience in commercial, editorial, and runway. I started seriously modeling in 2020. I always wanted to be a model. I was always told I take great pictures. So, my aunt, Morgan Britt, pushed me to pursue modeling more. I feel what sets me apart from others is my drive. I’m very passionate about what I do. I’m really proud of how far I have come. This is only the begin for me. I want people to know that we are beautiful in our own way. I also want people to know that it’s never too late to follow your dreams. My brand is all about self-love, confidence, and body positivity. I just love working with other brands that follow my vision.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a plus size model is the feels I get and give others. Modeling is like my me time. I feel powerful, loved, beautiful, and at peace. I love making others feel beautiful and powerful as well. I also love the fact that there are little brown girls that look up to me. It just makes me feel good knowing I’m doing something right and that my message for my brand is being heard.

How did you build your audience on social media?
All I can say is keep at it. Post when you feel you need to post. Create content that speaks to your soul. Always show love when people comment and etc. That’s all I do. I don’t have any real advice. I’m still building and growing my social media. Everything that works for me, may not work for the next person. So, once again just keep at it.
