We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Brittney Mitchell a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Brittney, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
Growing up, I was always fascinated with fashion and the ability it has to express individuality and confidence. I initially wanted to become a fashion designer. My grandmother bought a sewing machine for me and taught me how to design clothes from scratch using different fabrics when I was younger.
It wasn’t until I began watching the Victoria Secret Fashion shows where I began taking interest in modeling. I found inspiration in iconic models such as Naomi Campbell and Yasmeen Ghauri who exuded grace, charisma, and confidence on the runway and in front of the camera.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My path to modeling began when I decided to turn my passion into a career this year. I took the leap after serving eight years in the Navy, where discipline and physical fitness were paramount. The transition from a structured military lifestyle to the fluidity and creativity of the fashion industry was a challenge but I was determined to explore this new chapter of my life.
My journey into modeling started after connecting with industry professionals such as Rowena Kay McCormick Robinson of Chic Nouvelle and photographer John Merrit. I began networking and building my portfolio with some of the top photographers in New Orleans who shared their knowledge and expertise. I practiced my runway walk, perfected my poses, and honed my unique style.
I was able to shoot for NOW Weddings magazine and landed their cover for Spring 2023. Shortly after that, I became a finalist for Sports Illustrated Rookie of The Year and signed a contract with Ford Models.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The ability to imagine something in your mind and have that idea come to life. I get a lot of my inspiration through music and when I’m home I like to put together different looks based on my mood, what I’m listening to or what Im looking at on social media that inspires me.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I’m currently pivoting in my career right now, I went from working a very structured corporate job to creating different content for brands. It’s been a learning experience and a huge adjustment from what Im use to but I’m doing what I love and the transition gets easier each day.
