We were lucky to catch up with Brittany Noelle recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear about how you went about setting up your own practice and if you have any advice for professionals who might be considering starting their own?
I started off working for gyms. It was great for having a consistent pool of people who may be interested in personal training but terrible because the gym took a large portion of my earnings. There was also no paid vacations and crazy work hours. It was basically like running my own business but giving 60% of my income to paying rent to the gym. I decided that private coaching was a better option. I could keep 100% of the income and by making it online I could eliminate crazy hours and have paid vacations. By training clients online, I can train them from anywhere and still earn income. The biggest struggle is finding new leads since I now don’t have a gym full of people looking to get into shape to pull from. However, the pros outweigh the cons.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I have been an athlete my whole life. I ran track in college at UCLA, specializing in the 100m and 200m. I wanted to go to the Olympics but was always plagued with injury. This is what inspired me to learn more about physiology and how to help my body move in an effective and pain free way. I wanted to teach others how to do the same so I became a personal trainer. I loved how weight training made me feel stronger and more confident. This is something I wanted to teach other people. I transitioned my business to being online right before the Pandemic and it’s been a success! I can now help people all around the become stronger and more confident through weight training. The best part is, I don’t have to give a percentage of my earnings to a gym and I can work from anywhere around the world (unlimited PTO!). I love it.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
Along the road to running my own business I ran into many hurdles. One of which was understanding the legal paperwork involved. I have a science degree not a business degree so I had to teach myself about LLC’s, business taxes, business licenses, and everything else that goes along with owning a business. It was a lot to take in! I also made poor decisions to hire mentors and coaches who I thought would make my business more successful faster, but that didn’t happen. But I was able to bounce back and keep working towards my goal.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I wish I believed in myself and my method from the start instead of listening to people who told me I needed to follow their path and do it their way to be successful.
