Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brigitte Schambon-Kiser Schambon-Kiser. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Brigitte Schambon-Kiser, appreciate you joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later?
Yes, I wish I would’ve started my own business earlier in life. I also wish I would’ve continued shooting and diving into the field at full force from an early age. If only I could turn back time, I would’ve done things a bit different. In my early 20’s, I was working an office job to pay the bills. I had gone to school for an Interior Design degree, but sadly never pursued it as a career. I wasn’t that passionate about the profession. I really had aspirations of becoming a professional photographer instead one day, because I had an immense interest and a deep connection to this type of art… Around the time, I had bought a brand new camera, and had also been learning tips from a fellow “photographer” friend. One day while chatting with my friend, my life and dreams came to a sudden halt after he made comment that killed my enthusiasm . He said: “you shouldn’t pursue photography as a career. You should just keep it as a hobby, because there’s really no money to make from it and no one wants to pay for the work”. Hearing this really messed me up. Photography was the only thing I felt connected to and was the only thing I wanted to partake in as a lifetime career. I had heard once heard a quote that said: “Do what you love, and you’ll never work another day in your life.” I wanted to this! I wanted to do what I loved and never work a day in my life, but somehow those words, the comment my photographer friend had made, shattered some of those dreams and completely demotivated me. I packed up my camera and left it on the shelf for a couple of years collecting dust. I should’ve never done that… After certain time, I came to realize that maybe he wasn’t that into photography as I was. Perhaps we wasn’t getting commissioned because he wasn’t professional or even a good photographer. Who knows what the case was for him. I should’ve never listened. I lost many years of practice, many years of work and many images to build my portfolio. But then one precious day (fast forward a couple of years in the future) I felt the urge to start shooting again and was madly in-love with my camera again. The rest is history, lol!
Morale of the story is, never let anyone dull your sparkle and most importantly, never let anyone tell you what you can or can’t do. If I hadn’t listened to those words I would have started my business sooner. Perhaps my images would be on the covers of magazines
today.. who knows… But regardless of what happened, all I can say is I am so grateful and very happy with how my life and career have turned out thus far. I am a professional photographer, I am my own boss, make a great living from it, have my own business
and most importantly. I live my dream every day!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! My name is Brigitte. I was born and raised in Miami, FL. I recently moved back to the sunshine state after living in California for a couple of years. I am the Creative Director at Fruit Of Dreams, my boutique agency. I provide photography, graphic design and website services to clients and brands in need. I enjoy shooting on digital and analogue, and on special occasions I get to shoot with my Super 8 film camera. I’ve been blessed to work and shoot campaigns for renowned brands like Villa One Tequila, Cocktail Academy, The Hollywood Roosevelt, Pomelo Casa, 1 Hotels, Lowell Farms, Dr. Smood, amongst other brands. I mostly shoot lifestyle, product, portraits, food and beverage, but also enjoy architectural and travel photography. Would love to include more fashion photography to my portfolio (setting out my intensions out into the universe).
I play with flowers in my spare time and really enjoy going to the beach. I am currently rebranding and revamping my website… So stay tuned for more! For any inquires please contact me at: [email protected]
Alright – so here’s a fun one. What do you think about NFTs?
I would love to fully understand what an NFT is and how I can navigate the options. So if you are knowledgeable in the field and have some free time, please reach out! I would love to connect with someone who could help me grasp the whole concept and possibly help me execute my first NFT.
What do you find most rewarding about being creative?
The process of creating art is a learning process that continues for your entire career. Bringing a new idea to life is the most rewarding aspect of my work. So is seeing the final product. During the creative process, I feel most inspired. During the execution process, like shooting or designing the idea, is the time I get to come out and play. Witnessing your own growth as an artist is a humbling and rewarding experience. Having your work recognized is a blessing.
