We were lucky to catch up with Brianna Skumlien recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brianna, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Being a tattoo artist definitely takes risk. Especially starting up from the bottom by doing an apprenticeship. It’s a lot of hard work but it’s so worth it in the end. I love what I do and I wouldn’t do anything else. I started my apprenticeship in high school still back in 2016. I rode the bus to the city bus stop and road that down to the shop. It was hard work going from school right into a busy shop working all night but I wouldn’t change what I did becuase I am where I am today.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Hey my names Brianna I go by Bri. I got into tattooing back in 2016. I honestly loved art and always wanted to do something in the artist industry. I was that kid in high school drawing on all the others kids with sharpies and pens. Haha. The proudest moment I feel in my career, is when I do a tattoo that I’m super happy with and my clients tell me how much it means to them. It means the world to be able to make someone confident in themselves, and to make them happy with there new art work. Me and my wife just opended up our own shop called Underdark Ink and it’s so crazy the journey I’ve been trough to say the least I’m very excited and proud to be in the position I am now!

In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Honestly the best way to support artist, is by sharing thier work, sharing thier shop page, coming in and supporting the artist and showing freinds your page and just sharing the experience they had with our artist or myself.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding part of being a tattoo artist is the end of the session when the client finally sees the tattoo and is happy with the outcome. I love when it’s an emotional tattoo for them like a memorial or something that just means alot to them. It means a lot to be able to help people trough a hard time.
