We were lucky to catch up with Brian Lynch recently and have shared our conversation below.
Brian, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I Brian Lynch, am in the business of rendering a service to this community for the small group of people who choose to have their bodies decorated in some way or another. I choose to pursue my profession with intelligence and skill. Wishing not to offend anyone, but instead with my love of mankind, do what good I can do before I die.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
My name is Brian Lynch from Queens, New York and I love tattooing. I’ve been a tattoo artist for 15 years, and worked full time in San Diego, California since 2013. In July this year, I opened my own shop, In The Moon Tattoo, located in the Hillcrest/University Heights neighborhood, We specialize in American traditional tattooing & fine-line black and grey. Pop in and say hi next time you’re in the neighborhood!
Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
I left my hometown of Queens, New York, when I was 19 to pursue tattooing coast to coast. Going through years of hurdles and lessons in the industry has taught me an appreciation of the craft and it’s amazing history. Tattooing needs a lot of passion and a lot of resilience at every angle to make it work.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve recently made one of the biggest leaps of my life opening In The Moon Tattoo. I’ve always had my eye set on the corner house at 1515 Washington, and when the for lease sign opened up knew it would be the perfect location for my shop. It was a lot of pressure to make it happen but I had so much support from friends, the tattoo community and welcoming neighbors. It’s a beautiful shop with lots of sunlight and good energy, so I’m really thankful to open up every morning.
