We recently connected with Brea Holmes and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Brea thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve worked on is my body of artwork exploring faith, healing, and transformation, particularly the pieces created during my journey through depression, anxiety, and spiritual renewal. I began painting in 2023 during a season when I was struggling emotionally and searching for hope. What started as a creative outlet became a way for me to process pain, strengthen my relationship with God, and express experiences that were difficult to put into words.
Works such as Renewal, Breaking Generational Curses, and To God Be the Glory reflect different stages of that journey. Through color, texture, and abstract forms, I translated moments of surrender, healing, and divine intervention into visual stories. These paintings are meaningful because they are not only works of art—they are testimonies of God’s faithfulness and reminders that healing and transformation are possible even in life’s darkest seasons.
Sharing these pieces through exhibitions has allowed me to connect with others who have faced similar struggles, making the work larger than myself. Knowing that my art can encourage conversations about faith, mental health, and hope is what makes this project especially significant to me.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Brea Holmes, and I am a Los Angeles-based visual artist and the founder of A New Creation Ministry. My work explores themes of faith, transformation, emotional healing, and personal testimony through expressive abstract painting. Although I spent many years building a career as a costume designer in film, television, and live entertainment, I began painting in 2023 during a pivotal season of my life when I was navigating depression, anxiety, and spiritual renewal. What started as a personal form of healing quickly became a calling.
My paintings are deeply rooted in my relationship with God and my belief that beauty can emerge from brokenness. Through vibrant color, layered textures, and intuitive mark-making, I create visual narratives that speak to resilience, hope, and the transformative power of faith. Each piece serves as both a reflection of my own journey and an invitation for viewers to connect with their own stories of healing and growth.
What sets my work apart is its authenticity. I don’t create from theory—I create from lived experience. Every painting is connected to a testimony, a prayer, a breakthrough, or a lesson God has revealed to me. Whether someone shares my faith or simply connects with the emotional honesty of the work, I hope they find encouragement, reflection, and a sense of possibility.
I am most proud of using my art as a platform to create conversations around faith and mental health. By openly sharing my experiences with depression, anxiety, and healing, I hope to remind others that they are not alone and that restoration is possible. More than anything, I want people to know that my work is about hope—the belief that even in our darkest moments, God is present, working, and bringing beauty from the ashes.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a mission to use art as a testimony of God’s healing, grace, and transformative power. Through my work, I aim to create space for conversations about faith, mental health, and emotional healing—topics that have deeply shaped my own life. Having experienced seasons of depression, anxiety, and spiritual struggle, I understand what it feels like to search for hope in difficult circumstances.
My paintings are visual reminders that healing is possible and that God can bring beauty from even the most painful experiences. Each piece reflects a moment of growth, surrender, renewal, or breakthrough, allowing me to share my personal testimony in a way that transcends words. My goal is not only to create meaningful artwork but also to encourage others, helping them feel seen, inspired, and reminded that they are never alone in their journey.
Ultimately, I hope my work points people toward hope, restoration, and the possibility of transformation—both emotionally and spiritually.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
One of the most powerful examples of resilience in my journey came during a season when everything I had built my identity around seemed to fall apart. After years of pursuing a career that had begun to dry up, experiencing a painful breakup, and battling severe depression and mental health challenges, I found myself questioning my purpose and struggling to see a path forward. It was one of the darkest periods of my life.
In the midst of that brokenness, I found God in a deeper and more transformative way than ever before. Through prayer, faith, and surrender, I began to heal emotionally and spiritually. Around the same time, I discovered painting. What started as a way to process my emotions became a calling and a form of worship.
Today, I dedicate my artwork to glorifying God and sharing my testimony. Each painting reflects a piece of my journey—from pain and struggle to healing and renewal. My work is a reminder that even when life falls apart, God can redeem our stories and create something beautiful from our deepest wounds. That transformation is the foundation of both my art and my resilience.
