We recently connected with Brandolyn Hellams and have shared our conversation below.
Brandolyn, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear about the things you feel your parents did right and how those things have impacted your career and life.
From a very young age my parents taught us to treat everyone the way you would want to be treated. As I got older they made sure that we stayed true to that standard. Another thing I’ll always keep near that they taught is to ALWAYS look your best! Dress for the job you want, no matter what position you’re currently in.
Brandolyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have been in the news/journalism industry now for more than 8 years. I started in Charleston, SC as a production assistant. I then moved up to a producer. In 2018 my family and I moved to Atlanta, where I eventually landed my role at Fox 5 Atlanta.
As a segment producer, my role is to book guests segments for our 9am and 10am hours. I’ve booked guests like Jamie Foxx, John Travolta, Halle Bailey, Tito Jackson, and so many more. One of the bookings I’m most proud of is 2 members of the Exonerated 5. It was shortly after the Netflix limited series was released. For me it was about them being able to tell their story first hand. My biggest thing is to continue to amplify voices for those who feel like they are unheard.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
For me, my ultimate goal is to get to a point where I have no worries. I want to be able to take care of my family, without any worries. Travel whenever I want, but also help others who are in need. Not only financially but mentally too. I believe wanting that for myself but more so for others around me is the driving force to be sure that I don’t get too comfortable, and keep my eye on the prize.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
To me the most rewarding part is to make others happy.
