We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Boss Tootie The Hip-Pop Princess a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Boss Tootie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I first wanted to pursue music after I saw my dad recording and releasing his own songs 🎤🎶. Watching him in the studio made me feel inspired ✨ and showed me that dreams can really come true 💫. It made me want to grab the mic and create my own music too 🎧💖🎵

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi! I’m Boss Tootie, a 12-year-old artist from Sacramento, California. By day, I’m an honor roll student, and by night, I’m known as “Sacramento’s Hip-Pop Princess,” balancing school with my passion for music and performing.
I’ve been featured on CBS, ABC, Fox, and NBC News, along with many newspapers and magazines. My music plays on radio stations across the country, and I’ve performed everywhere from school assemblies and Juneteenth celebrations to headlining shows and rocking big stages.
I recently partnered with Cal-Waste Recovery Systems to release a song and music video PSA focused on food recycling, helping students and families learn how small choices can make a big difference for our planet.

I’ve released almost two dozen songs and 10 music videos, and everything I create is kid-friendly and parent-approved.
Be on the lookout for my brand-new upcoming project, Mo Luv (EP), coming to streaming platforms very soon. We’re currently finishing the cover art and the treatment for the lead single, “Mo Luv.”
Outside of music, I’m a co-founder of the 27916 Brand with #ArtifactsByTravlyrics. It blends Sacramento’s new 279 area code with the classic 916 to represent pride, creativity, and where I come from.

I take my craft seriously and always know why I’m doing this. My goal is bigger than just me—I want to share positive, family-friendly hip-hop with the world and proudly represent Sacramento every step of the way. 💖🎤✨

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Being an artist means I get to travel to different places ✈️🌍, perform original music I created live on stage 🎤✨, and even get paid doing what I love 💰💖. I also get to make fun music videos 🎬🎶, leave positive vibes everywhere I go 😊🌟, and meet new fans and supporters who follow my journey 💫📱.
I love networking with other creatives and musicians too — sometimes we connect and end up collaborating on something awesome. It makes me excited to keep learning, growing, and sharing my music with the world.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
In my humble opinion 😊, if you ever see an artist’s music video or performance—live or on social media 📱🎶—it’s always nice to show love by liking, commenting and even sharing 💬❤️. Artists really appreciate it when the crowd cheers for them during live performances 🎤👏✨. It also means a lot when fans support by buying the artist’s merch 👕🛍️💖. Every little bit of support makes a big difference 🌟💫
