Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Blake Conner. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Blake thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a story that illustrates an important or relevant lesson you learned in school
I was in college, around my freshman year, when I learned that ambition and energy were key to most things in life. A few years after I would launch my videography business, Digital Sunshine Media, but until then I was working on small-time personal projects and one-off gigs. From my peers in the program at Ball State University, as well as the instructors that inspired me, I learned that so much of life and achieving what you set out to is simply doing it. Making that conscious effort, day in and day out. I was already doing it at school, showing up to class, working on projects, etc. If I could extrapolate that effort and put it into my creative works, my videos, and my business, it would make me all the better.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Blake Conner. At the time of this writing, I am a 29 year old videographer and visual storyteller. I’ve had a camera in my hands for over half my life and always loved the art of storytelling, editing, and cinematography. Going through college, I worked on innumerable creative projects of all varieties, with a heavy emphasis on my own YouTube channel and short films. This culminated in a feature film I made in 2022 with my friends, and I have been working in the commercial and corporate space since 2016.
In 2021, I moved from a sole proprietor into an LLC under the name Digital Sunshine Media. Sunshine was always a motif of my earlier films, and it seemed like an obvious transition to carry with my what got me to where I am today.
Digital Sunshine is a professional video production company serving clients across Indiana and beyond, based in Bloomington Indiana.
Digital Sunshine was built to support a wide range of productions — from weddings and live events to commercial, music, and community-based projects. The mission is simple: deliver professional, high-quality productions to clients in the Midwest.
My brand is very personal, I bring my utmost commitment and personality into every project.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Up to now, it has been word-of-mouth. Great reviews from clients, making personal connections doing weddings and commercial work, etc.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
During the COVID-19 pandemic, all business essentially ground to a halt. Though I was a sole proprietor at this time, I still was seeking anything to get myself by. I ended up working as a contractor on Upwork, doing editing work for tons of different brands and YouTube channels. This platform is mostly domineered by workers in other countries who readily accept lower rates than the standard I was used to at this point, so I had to swallow a lot of pride and do what was necessary. I feel as though this helped forge resolve that no matter what, I could do what was necessary to get by.
