We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Bianca Schaefer a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Bianca , appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
To be successful in photography, I think it takes a combination of passion, persistence, and the ability to adapt. At the core, you need a genuine love for what you do. Photography is not just a job, it’s an art form, and if you’re not passionate about it, it’s easy to lose motivation when things get tough.
But passion alone won’t carry you. Persistence is key. The industry can be challenging, and sometimes, it’s about pushing through the times when things aren’t going as planned. Whether it’s a bad economy, saturated market, or technical challenges, you have to keep going, keep learning, and stay open to evolving with new techniques or trends.
And lastly, I’d say a big part of success is finding your own voice and style. There are so many incredible photographers out there, but what sets you apart is your unique perspective. Whether it’s through composition, storytelling, or the subjects you choose, having a distinct point of view is what makes your work memorable.

Bianca , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I specialize in fine art portrait photography, with a focus on stress-free newborn sessions in the comfort of the clients home.
Serving Orlando and all of Central Florida, with a true passion for working with babies, kids, and families. I bring my studio to my clients, complete with all the props needed to create beautiful, timeless images.
As a mom of two, I understand how quickly time passes and how important it is to capture those fleeting moments. Whether it’s a newborn session, family portrait, or milestone photos, I’m dedicated to preserving these memories for my clients in a way that reflects the unique spirit of thei family.
There’s nothing more special to me than capturing the tiny details and pure joy of life’s earliest moments.
Originally from Brazil (Naturalized US Citizen in 2021), I moved to the United States in 2007 to pursue my college education in digital design.
During that time, I worked as a nanny and became a natural “baby whisperer.” It was during this period that I truly discovered my deep love for working with babies and children, an experience that has been a huge influence on the way I approach my photography today.
At Bia Schaefer Photography, I bring over a decade of experience capturing the beauty of newborns, babies and families.
Since opening my business in 2011, I’ve worked with countless families, creating timeless portraits that capture the essence of each moment.
My clients can expect a stress-free, personalized experience, where I take care of everything — from providing a fully-equipped studio setup and props to creating a calm, relaxed atmosphere.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building a reputation in any market takes time, consistency, and a real commitment to quality—and that’s something I’ve always focused on. Early on, I realized that in a field as saturated as photography, it wasn’t enough to just be technically skilled. You have to offer something more, something that resonates with people.
One of the key things that helped me build my reputation was just being genuinely passionate about what I do. I didn’t approach my career as ‘just another job.’ Photography has always felt like a personal journey for me—each project feels like an opportunity to create something meaningful. That authenticity shows in my work, and I think it draws people in.
Another factor has been the relationships I’ve built over the years. Word-of-mouth and referrals have been a huge part of my growth. I believe in creating long-term connections with clients and collaborators—when people feel seen and understood, they’re more likely to recommend you to others. Whether I’m working with a small business or an individual, I try to make the entire experience as collaborative and personalized as possible. When clients trust me with their stories, they’re not just coming for a photo—they’re coming for a partnership.
I also made a conscious effort to carve out a distinctive style. There’s a lot of competition in photography, but having a clear visual identity has helped my work stand out. Over time, people started to recognize my style, how I capture genuine expressions, and the overall mood of my photos. Having a consistent aesthetic is important in establishing trust with clients; they know what to expect when they book me, but there’s always room for creative collaboration and fresh ideas.
Finally, a big part of building my reputation has been continuous learning. I never stopped evolving. The industry changes rapidly—whether it’s new technologies or shifting trends—so staying on top of that and continuing to push my creative boundaries has helped me stay relevant. I’ve also been lucky enough to collaborate with incredible people, which has opened up opportunities and expanded my reach.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is the ability to connect with people through the work. There’s something deeply fulfilling about knowing that an image I’ve created can evoke emotion, tell a story, or spark a conversation.
For me, the most rewarding part of being a creative is the ability to capture fleeting moments and turn them into something timeless. Photography, especially with newborns, maternity, and family sessions, is about freezing time—preserving those precious, irreplaceable memories for families to cherish forever.
I love the emotional aspect of my work. Whether it’s a mother’s joyful glow during a maternity shoot, the wonder on a newborn’s face, or the laughter of a family celebrating their bond, I’m able to encapsulate those emotions and deliver them back to my clients in a way that they can hold on to.
There’s also a deep sense of fulfillment that comes from knowing I’m documenting the most important milestones in people’s lives—those moments they may not even realize are fleeting until years later. When clients look at their photos and tell me how much those images mean to them, that’s what truly makes my job rewarding. It’s a reminder of how powerful and lasting a single photograph can be.
