We recently connected with Beverly Wixon and have shared our conversation below.
Beverly, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In January 2013, I discovered that a man I had been in a relationship with defrauded me of over $100,000. That same week I heard yet another teacher say, “We’re just teachers. We can’t afford that.”
Even though I had said that same thing, my entire teaching career, I suddenly asked myself why.
I knew that I had been able to convince teenagers that Shakespeare was easy to understand. And they did. So I knew the power of the mind.
So the first thing I did was make two decisions. One, stop saying “I can’t afford” and “I’m broke”. Two, contact my financial guy and see what we could do with my retirement savings.
My financial guy tried to put me off for a month or so since he no longer worked in my county. I was the only client he had in my area, but I insisted. When he came out the next week, he told me how happy he was that I insisted upon it because they had started a new program with a guaranteed 7% for seven years and so we stopped my contributions to other tax, sheltered annuities and put it all into this new tax sheltered annuity. I told him I wanted to be able to walk away in five years. He insisted it would take me double that or even more. I told him I’d give him six; he said it would take 12.
SPOILER ALERT: 6 years later, I reached my goal, which was 10 times what was in my retirement savings account the day I spoke with my financial guy.
Changing my language was a little harder. Yes, I decided to stop saying I can’t afford and I’m broke, and of course I had slip ups. Yet, whenever I caught myself saying it, I corrected it and reframed it. And lo and behold at the end of the pay period I still had some money left, which was definitely something new for me. And the next month I had even more.
So I decided to dive into mindset work, and I focused it all on money.
During this time, I also met with an attorney about the hundred thousand dollars and a contract was created so that he had to pay money back and I let it go. After all, it seemed like it was going to take 25 years for me to get that money back.
But by diving into mindset work around money, I was able to release the anger that I felt toward the man who defrauded me, toward the school board, toward society for not paying teachers more, and, most importantly, toward myself for buying into all those lies about the economy and how “little” money I earned.
During the 6 years that it took me to 10X my retirement savings, I did not scrimp and pinch pennies. I did not have any additional income or anyone else’s financial support. I was an English teacher, grading papers and creating lesson plans in my “spare” time, so I certainly had no time for an extra job.
Instead, I changed the way I thought about money and my relationship to money. I actually continued to go out to dinner with friends, to enjoy local theme parks, and I even traveled, I vacationed in five different countries during those 6 years. Prior to that, I had been on one real vacation in the previous two decades.
As I changed my thinking about money and my relationship with money, free items of value began to appear in my life. Discounts and coupons that I never noticed before frequently showed up. I even found money In old jacket pockets, in my car, and even online.
I taught in a low-socioeconomic area, so I shared a few of the fun, simple, and practical exercises I did with my teenage students. In the weeks that followed, they related amazing stories of what happened for them. I knew if it worked for teenagers who barely tried, then it would work for anyone.
So I shared the exercises with a few more people, colleagues and friends, and someone suggested I charge for it.
So, I did (after a while). And, thus I began a business as a Money Mindset Coach.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I was a career public school teacher from one of the lowest-paying districts in one of the lowest-paying states in the US. I believed all the things I heard about teachers not making enough money and never having money. And, when I believed all that, it was true for me. Then one day, I questioned it and changed the way I thought, talked, and acted regarding money. As I changed my thinking, my life changed. Our thoughts become our reality.
We all have money blocks. It doesn’t matter how much or how little money you earn, you still have money blocks. Think of the words and phrases you have heard about money or wealthy people. Perhaps you’ve even said those words. That all seeps into your psyche, so when you say you “want to be rich” your subconscious recalls all the not-so-nice things you’ve heard, read, and said about money and rich people, so it repels wealth. Your subconscious is there to protect you and it does that by keeping you from becoming the not-so-nice things you think about the rich.
I have always believed in the power of positive thinking, yet I also knew that no one can think positively 24/7. It took some time, but I finally realized that doing a few short, simple, and practical (with a dash of woo) exercises every day can have a powerful impact. And, this is how I help clients.
I have dozens of simple and practical exercises I share with clients, most of which can be done in less than 15 minutes a day, to help them shift the way they think about money. By shifting the way they think about money, they also change the way they talk about money and the way they treat money. They completely shift their relationship to money.
I believe it’s perfectly acceptable to care for and nurture money so that we can thrive and live our dreams. I believe each of us is meant to thrive and to live our dreams. Periods of struggle or sadness are simply steps along the path to those dreams. I believe each of us is a powerful being with God, the Universe, Source (whatever you choose to call it) within us, and that if make the effort to change, we can move metaphoric mountains. I also believe it takes much less effort to make those changes than I was taught as a child when I was taught it takes “decades of hard work”.
I 10Xed my retirement savings in 6 years. Imagine where I’d be if I’d put in the effort 6 years earlier or 20 years earlier. The beauty of it is that it doesn’t matter that I didn’t know then. I know now, so now I’m thriving and I’m helping others to do the same.
I help my clients dance with their fears about money and living their dreams. After all, (SPOILER ALERT) fears never go away. We simply learn to recognize them quickly and dance around them.
Mostly I work with clients one-on-one and I offer monthly free playshops, as I call them because it’s not work. I also have a free Facebook group where I share tips, strategies, and encouragement.
My clients have made great changes in their lives from reconnecting with estranged family members to saving over $20,000 in a year, to receiving unexpected promotions and gifts, and much more. Yet, I’m most proud of helping clients release the guilt, shame, anger, and anxiety they’ve lived with their entire lives, so they are now living happier and more content lives, which leads to living their dreams.

Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
I keep in touch with clients through my free Facebook group, my Facebook profile page, a weekly email, and by simply sending them messages to check in on them as I do with friends and family members. After all, my clients become friends.
That’s why now I host a playshop almost monthly, rotating topics. I know people need to hear things more than once, they need to be reminded of the power of simplicity, and I want to see them succeed, so I invite people who have been previously.
I enjoy hearing what’s going on in their lives, even after our work together is finished. My excitement for them, my encouragement, and my offers of free advice keep them returning and engaging with me because they know that I genuinely care about them, their goals, and their dreams and that I want to see them succeed and live their best lives.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The short answer is that I’ve found doing challenges and workshops, or playshops as I call them, has been the most effective way for me to grow my audience and my clientele.
That said, it wasn’t easy for me. I made it much harder than it needed to be.
In the beginning, I wasn’t trying to build a clientele or a business. I simply want to share my knowledge as I’d done for years as a school teacher. For a few years, it was merely a hobby.
However, once I decided to make it a business, one of the things I had to unlearn was “If you build it they will come”. (Thanks, FIELD OF DREAMS.) And, I discovered a bunch of mental blocks around having a business. Yes, I have money blocks. I was doing fine manifesting and attracting money outside of business, but my mental blocks were around asking people to pay me, so I kept procrastinating and getting distracted.
Yet, with all that, whenever I hosted a playshop, I always attracted a client or two. Then, I would retreat and not do another playshop for a while, sometimes creating my own little crisis.
That’s why now I host a free playshop monthly, with rotating topics. People are welcome to come multiple times. That’s how we build the relationships.
