We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Betty Nash a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Betty, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about keeping costs under control when growing. How have you managed to keep costs from getting out of control?
Starting an art business your prices should be fair and slowly increase with demand.
I feel it is very important to have your prices the same whether you are selling from a gallery, an art show, or your studio. This is only fair to the customers that have bought your paintings previously plus to your gallery.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am an artist. I paint in oils exclusively. I have been artistic all of my life finding different ways to express it. From a college course to private lessons and taking many workshops from some of the best artists in the US, I learned how to express myself and paint in the style that I desired -which is the 17th century Dutch Masters. As this takes many years , and many paintings to learn, now in 2022 with abstract in style it is not one of the most popular ways to paint. I love it. I feel very fortunate to have learned from the master David Leffel.
Winning awards in numerous exhibitions through the years and being judged into top art festivals I feel very lucky and happy to be an artist.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Other than being in galleries, being voted into some of the top art festivals has given me the opportunity to meet many wonderful people and grow my customer list. I keep in touch with my clients and send notice of each finished painting to give them first choice. I do not have prints nor giclees made of the paintings in order to keep them original.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
The first important thing was getting my own web page, bettynash.com. Having my own business cards and brochures was a way to keep people informed of my website and schedule.
