We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ayanna Amar a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ayanna , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
The way my parents has raised me has had such a positive impact on my life and career. My parents were truly instrumental in shaping and defining my moral characteristics. It was critical that I learned how to live a life of service, to treat people how I want to be treated and keep God as the head of my life. Growing up my parents would make sure that I was involved in a lot of community service which helped me learn to service others. Being in a custom service lead field its important to have great custom service skills . Im great at what I do but my character plays a part on why my business is flourishing.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 29yr old salon owner from Baton Rouge ,La. Also a licensed cosmetologist for 7yrs , who specialize’s in natural hair care, hair growth as well as coloring .The real passion that I have for hair began once I enrolled at Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School. As a child I would aways play with doll head hair, in high school/college I would do family and friends hair, guess this was meant to be! I am so grateful to God that I made it to the intersection of life where purpose, passion, career and service meet and I can turn my childhood love for hair into a career. I’m very passionate about talent and I always want what’s best for my clients hair, I would say that’s would separate me from others. Im most proud of how resilient I’ve been through this entrepreneurship journey , this journey can be hard but I’m thankful for the strength God has placed in me.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Over the last few years I’ve built a nice size audience on social media however , I’m still working on building my platform. How I’ve built it so far has been by engaging more with my followers and learning what type of content that they would like to see more. I also try posting more frequently and always making sure I’m posting quality content.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
People are big on reading reviews before going somewhere or trying something new , so I would have to say my clients reviews. I have so many reviews with kind things being said about their experience , the final product etc. Which has helped me to build a pretty positive reputation in my market.
