We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Avery Tate II. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Avery below.
Hi Avery, thanks for joining us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
Small town kid from Baton Rouge,LA my inspiration started at an early age. Sneaking to watch BET out of curiosity & eagerness to be more connected to doing what I love today. Of course everyone takes their 1st big step of independency when enrolling in college & moving out of home, in which my business was born. Through heavy involvement with my university organizations & community my passion for connecting people through media grew more & more as it became a tool for me to build/grow relationships which were so important towards my progression as a college student. Thereafter college, relocating to Dallas, I had been employed with UPS for 10+ years at this point & was in a supervisor role which is a very nice sufficient job coming out with a degree in Business Management. Transferred to work with the Freight logistics for about a year before I decided to fully embark on my passion which was media & music. Parted ways with UPS in 2021, went full-time with my business and managed to build a photography studio & a music studio all within a 6 month time span. During this time my business made drastic progress and my dreams started to become a reality, Over these past few years I have learned so much in regards to having a successful business & what it requires to sustain. Not only being a household personality since college years I have created a brand behind my business, but I’ve also established long term relationships that will flourish in the years to come. As I reflect I would say following your destiny gives purpose to life in general & I wake up everyday with intent & purpose. I aspire to attain residual income through my avenues created & would hope to pass the torch down for generations to come!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
“Ace” better known as Aj, Baton Rouge native, is an active business owner in Dallas, Tx, who’s passionate about photography and media production. I started “ShotByA” 8 years ago, with experience in multiple areas of production such as managing fashion/clothing brands, working with models, co-producing music videos, event planning, social media marketing and product marketing. Through consistent efforts of persistence I have created a space where people believe in me as a brand which holds heavy value towards the success of any business model. Creating a space where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves through your art is an Experience that can’t be remade or replicated because everyone has their way of servicing. Coming this far, I am most satisfied with the idea that I have always stayed true to my entrepreneurial habits & have created many essential assets that will create residual income for me & my family for years to come. For anyone who’s in doubt of stepping out on faith the biggest advice I can assert is have a plan of action that gives an intentional direction towards your purpose, you can obtain no results without effort and even the wealthiest & most successful started where you are today. Everyday I am exhilarated to embark on new endeavors here in the Texas area and expand my brand as an entrepreneur.
Not only embarking on the photography, me & my high school friend better referred as a brother has birthed a record label known as Major League Mhuzik where we have established many strong relationships in this industry. With modest efforts we have made a great introduction with some of our industries biggest producers as well as managed to obtain records with artist that I can’t reveal just yet, but Stay ALERT! We have been rooted on family principles since the origination and will keep those fundamentals as it creates the culture/trust that embodies our brand as a record label. We have made relationships in areas such as Atlanta, Los Angelos, Miami, Cincinnati, Houston & Vegas & our brand has been seen in many more locations with many more to come.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Coming out of depression has been a real challenge thus far for me. After experiencing a very hurtful separation from my previous relationship it truly impacted me in so many ways. It brought me into a really dark place where I lost myself. Through my counseling and prayers I overcame those traumas and have created a resilience within that gives me confidence in what I can overcome in life. Never would I imagine myself facing depression, however it became a reality with long nights of tears and pain that soon turned into affirmations towards making a difference in someones else’s darkest times. As I continue to grow and expand within my career, I continue to gain the will power to keep going.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
Starting out with my business, I use my own money. If I knew what I knew today I would have never done that. However I purchased my LLC and the journey began. If could have done differently I would have leveraged my business credit earlier and utilized that to gain buying power in this budget heavy business.
