Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Austin Whitney. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Austin, thanks for joining us today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?
Of course hind-sight is always 20/20. So, if I could go back in time I wish I would have started sooner. I mean, I’ve played guitar for over 17 years so music has always been a very influential part of my life. However, the creative aspect of writing my own music is something I wish I would have stuck with sooner. I was in the habit of writing something like a verse or a chorus down, then the next day I’d wake up and read it, be disgusted and not write anything for 6 months. Then, do that same process over and over. It didn’t click for me that writing was like a muscle; it needs to be worked on everyday for it to get better!
To sum it all up, I wish I would have been okay with being bad but trying to get better!

Austin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Austin Whitney and I am a Country Artist from Utah!
I started pursuing music full time about 2 years ago. At the ripe old age of 29, I had started a few of my own businesses but was still searching for that feeling of “fulfillment”. I attended a concert with my wife and watched not only the main artists look like they were having the time of their lives performing, but even the band members looked like they loved what they did. So, I felt incredibly inclined to pick up a guitar again. It didn’t take long but that led me to writing my own songs, performing around Utah, and releasing my own music!
For a long time, country music has been decided by suits who are interested in making the most money. They control the radio and have the money to put into artists who will do exactly what they say.
Thankfully, time has changed and real country music can be heard everywhere thanks to streaming services and independent distributing companies. That’s what I hope to do is bring authentic country music to the great state of Utah!

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
As simple as it sounds, the best support that an artist can receive is sharing! My goal is to create music that resonates with people, so ideally it should be simple to share something you connect with. But, just a few screen taps can mean the world to an independent artist.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social media is the biggest blessing and also curse. Everyone, no matter what industry you’re in can utilize social media. One of my biggest performance opportunities has come because I post consistently.
The biggest thing I’ve learned is that you just have to try over and over again. The algorithms are frustrating. But, if you post for a week and give up, you’re not giving yourself the best opportunity to succeed. Like with anything in life you have to be consistent! Try new things, read the trends and adapt it to your audience. The more you post the more insight you’ll have as to what’s working and connecting with people.
