We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Aurora Rodriguez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Aurora, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a creative? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job? Can you talk to us about how you think through these emotions?
I’m my best self when I’m allowed to be in a creative headspace, so with that said there’s no doubt in my mind that I’m much happier as an artist. I would honestly be lying if I said I never wonder if a “normal” or “regular” job would be better for me. It’s the times that I’ve felt stuck creatively or having my energy so depleted from working the job that helps me fund my music career where that thought can occur. Sometimes it’s simply me reflecting. However, every time I circle back to the conclusion that a lot of my happiness resides in the arts and music and I’m not sure how happy I could be in a different career or job.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am the singer, guitarist, and song writer for Angels From Ashes. I’ve always been surrounded by music, so I started laying the official ground work for my own music career in 2024.
My music has a range of sound; it pulls you from grunge, to shoegaze, to alt rock, to pop punk. That is all thanks to my influences as well as my drummer’s and I believe that’s what helps make the work special in its own way.
I pride myself in working with small freelancers and other small artists. I truly appreciate the people I know and love that are creative in their own fields and provide a network and support system for me.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
There’s so much that can be done or improved on. Venue spaces and local events could benefit from reaching out to artists, big or small, music or not, to help be part of them. It builds a good connection with the arts and creates a stronger sense of community.
Another big thing that can be done is for people to reach out to their local creatives for projects. Please commission them. Stop using AI, stop going to these huge expensive companies, and simply work with the creative community around you. Ask around, don’t be afraid to reach out.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
There’s so many, but what immediately comes to mind is two books that Russ actually wrote, ‘It’s All in Your Head’ and ‘It Was You All Along’. Both books are so insightful and honest in a really refreshing way. It helped create more peace for me as I approach my work. Another book I would have to recommend that’s affected me is a favorite of mine, ‘The Alchemist’ by Paulo Coehlo. It’s incredible how many people relate to it with their own lives and experiences in so many ways.
