We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ashara Holliness a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Ashara thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
The most meaningful project I have worked on was my project “Diary” . It was the first time I made music that was extremely personal and deep. I decided that it was time to start telling my story rather than just making good music . Diary follows my 4 years in high school and the obstacles I faced all the way until Graduation.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi everyone , My name is Ashara and I’m a La based artist. I got into doing music when I was 17 after hearing share my world by Mary j. Blidge . The main obstacle at the beginning of my career was that I couldn’t really sing lol. So I began searching for vocal coaches and studios and eventually landed at one. Throughout the years I have faced so many no’s and rejection it should have discouraged but it didn’t I made me more determined than ever to keep going. I think what sets me apart from others is my will to learn more about my craft and the history of music and the knowledge behind being a full creative.
What I would like new supporters and on lookers to know about me as an artist is that I’m a progressional artist and don’t you ever box me in ! My brand is all about having heart, being smooth and boundary pushing talent. “The vibe”.
I am most proud of my expanding talents as an artist. I’m learning so many new ways to approach a song when I sing , write, even create my choreo and edit my videos .

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
On my journey I have not had much support from those around me and I never had financial support at all. Let’s face it being an artist is not cheap ! But I keep finding side gigs and strengthening my saving and budget abilities so I could continue to work on my career. I have had to stop doing music many times due to not being able to afford it but I keep coming back for it kept finding ways to make things happen along the way until one day I said no more making my music a side gig I will find a steady income that allows me to put music first and after almost 9 years of getting it wrong I finally figured it out and became full time artist and never looked back

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wouldn’t say resources but more so knowledge . I wish someone cared enough to share the real about the music journey. Most people ahead of you see you as competition or a waste of time . So they won’t help or even share knowledge, if I knew what I knew now i may have approached this differently.
