We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful AriLyn McKelvey. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with AriLyn below.
Alright, AriLyn thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Leaving my old life behind. I left where all the pain happened, left where I kept being hurt, left where I felt constricted, where I felt I didn’t have a true tribe, for lands unbeknownst to me but to my ancestors, & crazy enough I kept coming across people who made me feel like I came to the right place, who were familiar with home and the principles I was raised on, and the opportunity here is vast; the risk was most definitely worth it.

AriLyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I actually was going to get into real estate in my hometown a few years ago, I got thrown off after my child’s father tried to shoot me in my face… I had to tend to my child who developed a shrunken personality when she was bright and bubbly and talkative, she turned quiet and sad and seemed like her light had dimmed. I kept her with me for two weeks straight after that, she would have a lot of questions late at night but other than that she didn’t talk much, I knew that moment changed her forever. So of course that was also a part of what I left behind. Mind you, I had less than 30% to complete training at the time but anywho, when I enrolled in real estate school the second time, I was in shelter, and I only did it because of the horrible way I was handled. I sought out assistance from a brokerage because I escaped another domestic situation, and the rental assistance provided to me was being shunned and stigmatized. The brokerage claimed they would help, set an appointment for me and stood me up. So I found my own home within 3 weeks, and signed up for real estate school under the same exact brokerage immediately. I passed with flying colors. Here we are now.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I’m transparent with my clients, I don’t sugarcoat, and my heart is pure in everything. I’m not a shady broker, and it truly is my pleasure to help people find new homes. An advocate for ownership more than anything but if I can at least help meet their needs if ownership is unattainable at the moment then I’ve been the vessel God created me to be for the moment in time, & hopefully next time around they are ready to go for ownership.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
Word of mouth has done plenty. People received my service and they feel my energy is welcoming and that I am the advocate that these housing coordinators put on to be but clearly aren’t.
