We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anthony Mcrae. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anthony below.
Alright, Anthony thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have an agent or someone (or a team) that helps you secure opportunities and compensation for your creative work? How did you meet you, why did you decide to work with them, why do you think they decided to work with you?
I have many agents. In fact most of the agents I currently have are agents that took a risk with me. I went to search for them around 2014. I was inspired and motivated to show that even though I don’t have any adult experience with commercials or a lot of entertainment…. That I was someone any agency needed. I am very sure of what I could develop and bring to the table, and that attitude is what brought me to their tables. IronicallY enough my first instincts brought me to the first tables of the agents that I’ve kept since the beginning. I just trusted my instinct and emailed the agencies I thought would best fit who I am! And they were willing to take a risk because they also saw something in me from the beginning. This goes to show that you should always take risks because you never know when you’ll be met halfway! ;)

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started in this industry as an infant. My mother was the individual that chose to get me into commercials and modeling as an infant. Then as I got older, she continued to get me zet cards and headshots so that I could go to castings and be on tv. However even with my mom being the reason I got into the entertainment industry, she was never a stage parent. She never forced me to stay and always had my back, and made sure that I was safe and well looked after on any set or job or audition I may have had. And I was very grateful that she allowed me to stop when I wanted to stop and not force me to keep going because I was good at it like some parents have!
What sets me apart from other actors, is my discipline and patience. I also know that the simplicity in my actions and choices in my career are what also have been more effective than anything else. However not everything that works for me will work for some one else. And I definitely want people to take what I say as a possibility but with a grain of salt. My path and the way I walk isn’t how others path and walk are lol.
Still to this day one of the biggest and proudest moments for me was being able to work with Eminem and marvel for the song Venom by enimen. I got to be the lead actor that started the tone of the music video, and then I also got to be in theaters around the world as the opener to venom. I was super proud of that moment especially since I want to be a marvel superhero as an actor. This is a project I still get compliments on.
If I had to choose super hero’s to play I think I could play Myles morales spider man or another dope Spiderman, and I know I could play black panther or an individual with a panther suit and heart shaped herb! There’s probably other in between dope characters but those are the two I really want

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Pursuing the industry is not easy. It takes a lot of courage, determination, resilience, and patience. Ever since the world experienced a pandemic and everything shut down, the industry has became more difficult. The substituting of in-person auditions for self tapes meant that anyone in the world can audition now for the same role. And currently the industry is so tough that A-List celebrity actors are now in the same audition room with me. I’ve in fact been in some groups with some celebrity actors for a commercial and other things. Because of all these changes it has made me think about how difficult it is now and how can I succeed when they will usually choose the known works of an actor before an upcoming actor!
But never give up because I haven’t, you just need to adjust your perspective and how you approach auditions. There is always a way.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Don’t trust everyone and don’t think everyone wants to be your real friend. Most individuals want to use you for what you have or what you might be able to have. A lot of people in the industry are takers and play selfish games to those they think are naive and can’t be smart. Remember to have discernment. Because it’s very necessary. There’s always someone wanting something you have even if you don’t realize it. So be careful
