Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Annie Wolk. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Annie thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
As an artist, I am self-taught. I purchased a set of watercolor paint 7 years ago and haven’t looked back! The key to learning your craft is to practice every day, and in doing so you will find your likes and dislikes, and new techniques along the way. The process of creating something is like magic, and even if you hate what you’ve just created, you are always learning something new to take into your next piece. Patience and trusting the process are two very essential skills to have while creating. Self doubt is a huge obstacle that I think all artists face on a regular basis.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Annie Wolk and I am an artist. My first love is watercolor, but I thoroughly enjoy just simply creating which opens up a whole world of endless possibilities. I work in the corporate world, and love having art as one of my many outlets. I spent a great deal of time practicing and improving my craft during covid, and in doing so, I met many other local creatives and participated in various pop-up events in the community. I take inspiration from nature and experiences, I believe our earthly surroundings should be celebrated in all of its forms and colors. You can find my pieces in my Etsy shop, and I’m always open to commissioned pieces. If you are ever interested in any paintings you see on my Instagram that are not listed in my shop, always feel free to message me! Most recently, I created a group on the app, Heylo, named ‘Art By The Beach’ which welcomes everyone and anyone with an interest in meeting new people, hanging out by the beach, making connections, and creating art. Come join us!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Hands down creating connections is the most rewarding part of being an artist. My favorite memory comes from one of the events where I was a vendor. A teenage girl came up to me and said my art had inspired her to paint, and she proceeded to show me her recreations. The connection with others also helps you develop a deeper sense of inspiration to take with you into your creative endeavors and daily life.

How did you build your audience on social media?
The act of putting your work on the web for the world to see is undoubtedly vulnerable, but by doing so you become part of a community of other creatives. I’ve found that consistency has been the key to help build my social media presence. No matter how many people follow you, remember that they are all there to support you and your art. Whether you have 10 or 1,000 followers, never underestimate their significance.
