We were lucky to catch up with Annie Mayfield recently and have shared our conversation below.
Annie, appreciate you joining us today. What was the most important lesson/experience you had in a job that has helped you in your professional career?
There was one job that I experienced leadership that was incredibly inconsistent with their attitude and energy. One day they were singing my praises, but on the flip of a dime, their expectations weren’t met and they would be saying things to me that put me in some seriously dark places. While a hard lesson, this taught me the importance of knowing what Christ says about you. There I was knowing I was “loved” by Christ, but basing my identity on what the world (in this specific season, my bosses) said about me. When they were pleased? I was loved by. Christ and worthy of my place in the world. When they weren’t? I was loved by Christ and felt like I wasn’t good enough to exist.
The gift of Christ is not just His love but the identity we are gifted through Him as heirs to the kingdom. To live that, means to know what that looks like. Now that I actually know what Christ says about me (that I am chosen, loved, worthy, valuable, intentionally made, made for Him), even when I have bosses that continue to speak to me in ways that belittle me, they don’t get to speak over me.
Therein lies the lesson- people will speak to you, but in Christ, they don’t have the power to speak over you.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I went to college for tennis and found myself struggling a ton with anxiety. This led to a deep dive of self development book consumption- and I fell in love with the idea I could talk back to my anxious feelings.
Fast forward a few years and experienced where I was incredibly anxious, but the self help books were no longer “working,” I realized it is only through Christ can we truly have peace. If self development doesn’t lead to spiritual dependence, you haven’t developed yourself enough to realize you can’t do life without Christ.
Through my books and podcasts i am to remind friends that we all were called to be the light of the world as we look to Christ as our compass on how to navigate this world. That, and, everyone has a ministry. Ministry isn’t just for preachers or pastors, it’s for all of us as we shine God’s light in whatever vehicle He’s called us to be in this season. For me right now, that looks like being the light as a wife, sister, daughter, corporate America technology sales representative, podcast host, and author.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
To me, the goal should always be to serve the person you once were. Especially in business, the worst mistake you can make is try to make your offering for “everyone.” There is a certain heartbeat behind a founder of a business that recognizes their solution isn’t for all people, but the right people, and? Those“right people” are the ones who are now, where you used to be, and your offering is an accumulation of all the lessons you learned along the way.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Consistency over everything. That, and similarly to my advice from above, your audience isn’t “everyone”, but the person you used to be.
I started my account as a fitness account. And then guess what? I found myself moving from talking about fitness all the time, to talking about God. Truth is so many of us think of a “brand” when we think of socials, I encourage you to think of your spirit. What the thing you can’t stop talking about? What’s the content you binge watch and scroll? That’s a compass for you on what to create, because just like a workout- the best content you create is the kind you want to keep creating.
