We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Anna Vojtas. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Anna below.
Anna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you recount a time when the advice you provided to a client was really spot on? (Please note this response is for education/entertainment purposes only and shouldn’t be construed as advice for the reader)
I think the most valuable piece of advice I have shared with a client is to assess their situation with a multidisciplinary approach. The wellness field has exploded in the past decade with thousands of new, or reinvented modalities of healing. While these modalities may be a useful vehicle to find inner wisdom, there will never be a single “fix all” circumstance. I encourage my clients to seek support of medical and mental health professionals in conjunction with the spiritual guidance and energetic healing that I provide. There have been countless instances of my psychic abilities lending insights to medical anomalies that require medical diagnosis and treatment. I also have instances where I can feel first hand trauma that needs further processing and support, to which I then refer my clients to seek therapy. I am always astounded by these cases, and tremendously grateful to have this gift in supporting others.

Anna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
While obtaining certification for addiction counseling, I worked in an addictions treatment facility as a group facilitator. I began seeing patterns of disconnection, individuals lacking secure attachments, and an absence of creative self expression. This motivated me to obtain my degree in psychology. I then went on to a Master’s program, when something shifted. I realized that although traditional psychotherapy can be beneficial and life saving, it still had many limiting elements to the type of healing work that I knew would profoundly and sustainably change people’s lives. I knew there had to be a way for people (especially from disadvantaged groups), to heal themselves. I also knew that the ethical integrity of alternative modalities would be questionable, as I was stepping into an unregulated field. This became my first priority – to apply not only my training in ethics, but also evidenced based practices to blend science with the intuitive arts.
I became a reiki practitioner, and then later a reiki master. During this time I also learned to trust my intuition in a new way and was able to channel messages psychically. These messages lend support and give loving insight on the next steps of healing. I began teaching reiki, emphasizing the importance of ethical practices and cultural context (as reiki is deeply rooted in Shinto & Animism). I soon realized that it was also my responsibility to not solely rely on another culture’s modality of healing, which allowed me to discover energy healing within my own lineage.
What has emerged is OHEŇ. Slovak for fire, OHEŇ pays homage to my own personal heritage, while also encompassing the transformative nature of the work. Fire is both the creator and destroyer. It can challenge and nurture. It teaches us that if we move beyond our fears, we can be transformed and reborn. My current offerings include one on one sessions (both virtually and in person), reiki trainings (virtually), and day retreats (in person). I have been through the fire, and it is an honor to do this work with others.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When asked “When did your healing journey begin?” I always say, “When did my hurt begin?”. As a healer, I think we all have had to go through a deep initiation in order for us to be a in the privileged position of helping others – Carl Jung explains this as the “Wounded Healer”. This is to say that empathic and effective healers are those who have had profound and intricate levels of pain themselves in order to effectively understand others. As Jung states, “It is his own hurt that gives a measure of his power to heal”. This philosophy has been supportive for me in assigning meaning to some of the pain and suffering I’ve endured in the past – if I hadn’t experienced these things then I wouldn’t have insight to understand this circumstance in someone else. My entire business is the story of my resilience in this way.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective way to grow my clientele has been through word of mouth references, and a strong reputation. When embarking on any business endeavor you’re bound to make mistakes, but it’s important to be consistent with a few key values. Of those values ethical practice, holding boundaries, and being able to pivot with flexibility have proven to be fundamental in my work. It took two years for me to learn the lessons before I was ready for my business to expand, but once I was ready it began to gain more traction. Don’t give up, stay consistent!
