We recently connected with Ann Baker and have shared our conversation below.
Ann, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you’ve thought about whether to sign with an agent or manager?
Finding my agent was an unexpected but pivotal journey. I had been modeling and writing for a while, slowly building up my portfolio, when I began seriously researching agents who represented work similar to mine. After attending a few writing conferences and pitching sessions, I narrowed down a list of agents who seemed to resonate with my style and themes. I sent out query letters, each one tailored to show why I thought we’d make a good team. Rejections and silence were discouraging at times, but I kept refining my pitch. Then one day, after a particularly long day of editing, I received an email from an agent who was not only interested but enthusiastic about my work. Their understanding of my vision and thoughtful feedback made it clear that they were the right fit. After a few calls and discussions, we officially decided to work together, and it felt like a perfect match.

Ann, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Entering the modeling & acting worlds as a child, I began with local theater and boutique opportunities, where I first learned the nuances of performance and presence in front of an audience. Each role in the theater helped me explore different emotions, characters, and styles, giving me a foundation in versatility. My early work with local boutiques introduced me to the importance of showcasing products in a way that connects with viewers, blending artistic expression with commercial appeal. These experiences taught me how to adapt my look, energy, and expression to suit each unique setting or brand I represent.
My ability to embody different styles and emotions sets me apart as a model. Whether it’s for a lifestyle shoot that calls for a relatable, everyday vibe or a high-energy commercial set, I bring flexibility and enthusiasm to each role. This versatility allows me to meet the varied demands of my clients, a skill I have refined through years of dedicated practice. I am deeply proud of the journey I’ve been on, particularly learning to persevere through the challenges that come with the industry. There have been difficult days, but each experience has strengthened my resilience and commitment to my craft.
Today, I am honored to be an over 50 lifestyle and commercial model and also an author. I aim to create work that not only represents the brands I partner with but also speaks to audiences in a meaningful way. Modeling has given me a unique perspective on storytelling, allowing me to communicate visually and through words. This journey has shaped who I am, and I am excited to continue evolving, staying adaptable, and sharing my passion with the world.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Appreciate & value the genius behind the creativity.
Society should recognize and value artists more deeply, acknowledging their essential role in shaping culture, inspiring change, and fostering emotional connections. Artists are the architects of our shared experiences, providing insight into the human condition and reflecting the complexities of society through various mediums. Their work stimulates critical thinking and dialogue, encouraging individuals to see the world from different perspectives. In a world increasingly driven by technology and commercialization, elevating the status of artists can lead to a richer, more nuanced understanding of life. By investing in artists—through fair compensation, support for the arts, and promoting artistic education—we enrich our communities and ensure that creativity remains a vital force in shaping our collective future.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Modeling & writing for me, are often driven by a profound sense of fulfillment and the desire to leave a lasting legacy. The industry provides an avenue for self-expression and creativity, allowing me to connect with audiences on an emotional level. This fulfillment comes not only from the artistry of modeling itself but also from the ability to inspire others, whether through fashion, beauty, or cultural representation. Furthermore, I often aspire to leave a legacy that transcends my career, whether by breaking barriers in the industry, advocating for diversity and inclusion, or influencing future generations of creatives. By embodying these ideals, they contribute to a broader narrative that reshapes societal standards and perceptions, making a mark on both the industry and the world at large.
