Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Anissa Mchenry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Anissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I knew I wanted to pursue modeling when I started working with a local boutique here in Memphis in 2019. I was nervous when I first attended their model call. Aside from photoshoots for cheer & a Dillard’s photoshoot as a toddler, I had ZERO experience. I went for it anyways. From there, the rest was history. The work never felt like work. I felt like I found my calling/creative avenue I wanted to explore. It was something that I truly enjoyed doing and when I felt the most confident. I started to book my own photoshoots, working with different creatives in the Memphis area, and trying to learn the craft as much as I can. My love for modeling & fashion only grows more every day.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I got started in the modeling industry by attending a modeling call for a local boutique in Memphis. From there I have been trying to improve my skills by doing various photoshoots and collaborations with other creatives, modeling for a variety of businesses & boutiques, etc. I offer a variety of modeling services; working with individual photographers, creative directors, boutiques, clothing brands, restaurants, etc. What sets me apart from others is that for the client, I bring a new way to market their products and a new way to execute whatever their creative vision can be. I like to think of myself as a canvas for the client to use as a tool to help execute their creative vision. I’m most proud of myself for taking on a new challenge (pursuing modeling). I am always open to projects that allow for growth, wanting to continuously learn more about the industry, and being open to teach others what I wish I knew when I was starting out. I truly hope that through my career as a model I can inspire and help others reach their goals, whatever they may be. I want people to know most about me is that as I learn and grow in the modeling industry, I am always willing to give back/help others as I have been helped. There is enough room for all of us to succeed in what people may deem an oversaturated industry.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect of being a Model is seeing a creative vision come to life and being able to collaborate with other creatives in the process. Seeing the final product of something you’ve work so hard to create is a feeling I cant describe. Its inspiring, its mind-blowing, its so many things.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
The mission driving my creative journey is to inspire and teach others through my work. I want to inspire people to follow their dreams and aspirations no matter what the circumstances may be and to teach people what I have learned to help them on their own journey.
