We were lucky to catch up with Anisha White recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Anisha thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later?
I started doing photography my last year in college. I was working at Children’s Medical Center at the time and going to school full time. September of 2017 I quit my job and embarked on my entrepreneur journey. So now I’m a full time student working on starting a photography business. When I first started photography I was working with someone and at the beginning of 2020 I branched out completely on my own. This was right before COVID hit. I had jobs lined up and them boom the world shuts down and I no longer have those jobs that was lined up. This was hard for me because I wasn’t expecting it. As I look back I’m not sure if I would have branched out on my own sooner or later because I learned a lot in that time. I always make it a point to seek God before I make any moves and because I did, I know I didn’t make the wrong move. So to answer the question I would have started at the same time. I wouldn’t change anything because I wouldn’t know what I know now.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Well to start off my name is Anisha White and I am 31 years old. I have been a full time photographer for 6 years. I started September of 2017. I am a lifestyle photographer and I specialize in family, graduation, special occasion ( birthday, engagement, announcements, anniversary, etc.) portraits. My entry into photography is pretty crazy to me. In middle school I had a season were I wanted to do photography. It was was an interest that came out of no where but it didn’t last long. High school I decided I wanted to go into child development and I stuck with that until my second year of college. Life begin to happen and I had to take some unwanted time away from school. In those two years my desires changed and while working I realized it was meant for me to be my own boss. The problem is, I didn’t know what I wanted to do. One day that interest in photography came back and the desire to pursue it was strong. I can’t remember the date or time but, I assisted my aunt who is a hairstylist with a class she was teaching. And as she was inspiring her students, she had no idea she inspiring me at the same time. I walked away from that class motivated to step out on faith and explore photography. September 29,2017 while a full time college student and after months of seeking God, I quit my job and embarked on the amazing and challenging journey I’m on now
I pride myself on giving my clients the best service possible. I make sure each client has their own experience and that they walk away knowing I gave them the best that I had. I also make it a point to create lasting memories full of laughs. And most importantly make them want to use my services again.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect to be a creative is the creating. I love coming up with different poses for my clients and thinking of ways to tell a story through the picture. I love being able to bring out my clients personality through the picture. And the most rewarding aspect of it all is the clients satisfaction with the work we’ve created.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
A lot of my business has come from word of mouth. Previous clients and family/friends who know what I do have been my source of more clients. Yes I’m on social media but word of mouth has been the best source thus far.
