Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Angie Hinojosa. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Angie, thanks for joining us today. Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
My salon studio is called Studio Three 33, the name I chose came to me in such a strange yet perfect way! When I decided to finally take the leap into creating my own salon business it was one of those decisions that is truly scary not knowing what the road ahead may look like. As I was starting to work towards building my salon I would see the numbers 333 absolutely everywhere from furniture ads online, phone numbers on billboards and even when I’d check the time while working on various things for my business, often times it was 3:33pm. This is a sequence of numbers I have seen frequently throughout my life, and while going through a big change in my career it showed up more than ever. It is said that the meaning or message behind seeing this sequence of numbers is to trust yourself, set plans into action & let your personal strength be your guide. I knew that while I was nervous to take this path in my career, I was definitely on the right path! One day as I was nearing the time of finalizing my business I was driving along the highway and could not think of a name that I truly loved or that resonated with me, just then a car merges in front of me with the numbers 333 in their license plate and I knew in that moment that the perfect name for my salon would be Studio Three 33!

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Angie Hinojosa. I have been a hairstylist for a little over 5 years and have had the opportunity to do incredible things in my career. I’ve received various awards for industry competitions, had my work featured on the front cover of a salon industry magazine and have been blessed to continue growing my craft and career along the way. I come from parents who are both barbers and have loved following their footsteps in the cosmetology field. I recently became a salon studio owner in Carlsbad, Studio Three 33. I wanted to curate a salon where everyone was welcome to come and have a personalized one on one experience to reach their hair goals. I offer tons of different hair services to help meet the needs of anyone who sits in my chair. I am here to not only be your hairstylist but to also provide a safe space for my clients to express themselves in any way they would like to. I love educating everyone on all of the steps and processes that go into creating their dream hair as well as recommending proper at home hair care as well. I have loved every single moment of having my salon space open and connecting with all of my clients wether they’ve been with me for years or are brand new to my salon; everyone who comes and spend their hair day with me truly makes a positive impact in my career and I am grateful for everyone who has trusted me as their hairstylist!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I created my social media, I knew that I wanted to showcase every aspect of what I create behind the chair as a hairstylist. I knew I wanted to target a well rounded audience and share snippets of my creativity outside of the salon as well. I had to keep up with the ever changing trends on social media and started incorporating more reels of my work process as well as silly videos that showed parts of my personality. I think that your presence on social media and what you post definitely attracts your tribe. Social media can be a bit confusing at times, but I would advise anyone who is new to it to photograph and make videos of the things that make you and your business unique. There is also tons of resources out there that give small tips and tricks on how to boost social media exposure, how to edit photos/videos and different ways to keep your social media account visible in the algorithm. I believe in order to attract an ideal clientele you have to show the personality of both yourself as well as your business. Although it may not be perfect at first, never give up on putting yourself and your work out there! In this digital age, social media is everything and I do believe if anyone sets time aside to learn about the different ways to create a social media presence it can definitely be a game changer!

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The one thing that has helped grow my clientele has been networking as well as asking existing clients for referrals and Google reviews! Clients, friends and family are my biggest supporters and have helped boost my clientele. From time to time I will post my business Google page on my social media platforms asking for clients to leave an honest review based off of their experience in my salon. Positive feedback on my google business page allows new clients to read client experiences and helps encourage new guests to reach out and schedule future appointments with me.
