We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Angie Caedis. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Angie below.
Angie, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In May of 2024, I decided to leave my corporate marketing job to pursue my writing career in a capacity I’d never been able to before. Up until that time, I had balanced my 9-5 office job with late nights and weekends of nonstop writing. Though I self-published my debut novel, Slice, during that time, I was unable to keep my author dreams in the shadows any longer.
So, I risked it all. I quit my job, sold my house, and pressed the big, red reset button on my life. I went from squeezing spare minutes out of my day to dedicating myself fully to my craft. Almost two years and two books later, I can honestly say the risk was worth it. Do I have it all figured out? Absolutely not. The road of a full-time creative is a hard one, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything. I will never stop fighting for every day I get to show up for myself and my endless passion for storytelling.

Angie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi there, I’m Angie Caedis—an indie author who is obsessed with storytelling. No matter if I’m writing an action-packed fantasy series or an eerie short story, sharing my inner world with readers is my greatest life’s purpose. My goal for writing is the same reason that I read: to feel. Whether you’re internally screaming at a character’s stupidity, gasping at a plot twist, or blushing at steamy banter, I want it all. Fall into a story and let it consume you. Rediscover parts of yourself through characters. Stay up all night to escape the world for a bit. If I can achieve that (and maybe sell a few books along the way), I’ll have lived a good life.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
I thrive on connection. Every time I hear someone say they related to a specific character or fell so deep into the story that the world felt real, I’m overjoyed. I want my writing to change people like it’s changed me. Each story I write is a different piece of myself offered up to the world, and I feel extremely grateful when readers see that part of me and discover themselves in turn.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I used to think that the worth of my work was dependent on how many people liked it, and, still to this day, that’s something I struggle with. As a creative, it’s easy to get caught up on external validation and the “metrics” of success. What’s my book’s rating? How many followers do I have? Who’s talking about my book? And while those can be useful tools, they’re not everything. I had to teach myself that true success is achieved through the mere act of creating. Did I share the story I was dying to tell? Was I authentic? Does a piece of my soul live in this book? At the end of the day, those are the only things that matter.
