Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to ANGELINA CAPPIELLO. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi ANGELINA, thanks for joining us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
In August 2001, I began my journalism career at the New York Post, one month shy of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. As a “copy kid” – the nickname they gave new, aspiring reporters who had to bear the grunt work of passing out first-draft copies of the newspaper to editors and occasionally fetch coffee for them – I longed for the days when the city editor would call my name to go out on assignment.
Then 9/11 happened and it was all hands on deck, as they say.
My assignments included consistent coverage of death, disease, crime, and mental health instability. Sometimes, I feared for my mental health during this dark, depressing time in our country’s history. I spent the next six years on the city news desk covering daily crime and occasionally writing real estate and travel articles.
My time at the New York Post has taught me one vital life lesson that I continue to use in my career: the importance of the interview.
My favorite part of being a journalist is speaking to an individual and learning more about or from them. We can always learn something from one another by sharing our stories and knowledge – this is the part that makes me tick- the part I believe is the most important in any career, whether it be a journalist, educator, doctor, or lawyer.
Those personal connections and the lessons I have learned, bad or good, have helped shape how I approach people, relate to others, and have given me the gift of empathy. My ability to understand the people I interview, celebrity or commoner, is paramount. I have it, my writers have it, and it makes Preferred Health Magazine an informative and more relatable health publication. After all, our health is an intimate topic and should be handled with great care.

ANGELINA, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
It feels like life has come full circle for me. First starting out as a journalist, then working as a sales representative for a publishing company, now working for myself as a publisher for a nationally recognized magazine. The journey has not been without its ups and downs, but I now see that it’s lead me back to doing what I love to do, writing, interviewing, learning, and sharing the lessons life continues to teach us.
Our slogan, “Keeping Health Hip”, embodies the idea that health is something we should be celebrating and nurturing each and every day. It should not be something we only start to think about in our old age. Our health and the topic of health, needs to be relatable to everyone no matter age, gender, or race. This is why Preferred Health Magazine exists.
Our reporters are passionate about what they do and take pride in reporting on a plethora of topics relating to physical & mental health, social & lifestyle issues, interviews with top doctors, healthcare experts, authors, and celebrity guests. We also take pride in further exploring topics surrounding new medical procedures, studies, and trending cosmetic treatments.

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
You build a good reputation by assembling a team that can 1- create connections in the field and 2- are passionate about their assignments; and by putting out great content for your audience. If you lack one or the other, it can hinder your success. In other words, you can have great connections, but it means nothing if you don’t work hard to produce great content. If you don’t have passion for the work, it will show in your product. A team that loves what they do helps get the job done right. Building credibility takes time and it’s not a one man job. Stay humble, stay honest, stay passionate, and never stop creating relationships.

Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Writing is something I loved as a young adult. My passion started with poems, and I can often be found writing in my journal, drafting poems for my friends, and sometimes on long sheets of toilet paper! (the bathroom is great for privacy). The writing process has always been cathartic for me.
I’ve written poems of heartbreak, anger, dreams, and desires. I’ve attempted screenplays, have written a children’s book dedicated to my daughter (unpublished), and have begun a memoir, which I hope to finish by next year.
I don’t know if I chose my profession or if it chose me. I know it has returned to me after so many years separated from the field, and I am better for it. So if something like that happens in your life, don’t ignore it, follow your passions wherever they may lead!
