Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andrew Smith. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Andrew, appreciate you joining us today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I wish I could have learned how to be an entrepreneur at an early age. I am so grateful for what I learned at my jobs, but working for someone else is not how I function at my best. The reason is because, only you are going to pay yourself what you are worth. Only you are going to earn the respect when you take accountability and responsibility for your actions. When you work hard for someone else’s company, they get all the recognition and money. When you build your own company, your success depends on you, and if you are disciplined and have a strong work ethic, and want to enjoy what you are doing, and want to get paid what you’re worth, be your own boss.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I own a DJ business that started out as a security company. My experience in the music industry began at a young age when I was classically trained on many instruments. I offer a unique solution to VIP clients who expect more quality, luxury, and attention to detail.
Not only do I provide top notch entertainment, I am also an audio engineer, and can set up large sound systems and run live bands and performances. Ultimately I have become an audio engineer, an MC/DJ, and security consultant all in one. I was blessed with a great pair of ears.
My company 1Wave DJs is still in the beginning stages, but will be my most original concept I have ever followed through with and stuck to.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Social media is a pain in the butt. Spending all that time on your computer and phone takes away precious time from family and events.
That being said, it is absolutely necessary social proof. 50-70% of my business comes from leads generated by social media, and those closed sales are what gives me more flexibility to be with my family for important events.
I consistently upload my work to all platforms that are free. I respond to all comments, and follow followers. Hashtags and graphic design are key to building a great business online.
This is my daily job, and even though I hate to stare at a screen all day, it is the 21st century.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Of course I had regular jobs. I had to go all in on my company. I got too busy, and the jobs requirements are always petty, pay too little, and you get treated poorly compared to running the business yourself.
