We were lucky to catch up with Andee Rudloff recently and have shared our conversation below.
Andee, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
I was finishing up my collegiate path, and being told teaching was the most reliable career choice… Not interested in continuing to work in the academic world, I quickly thought I need to carve my own path. I felt like I had already worked for universities as a collegiate athlete and they were not kind. In fact, it was a brutal existence. I really wanted to look back on my creative life, and know, I had pushed myself.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I am a muralist, educator, community engagement specialist, and the creator of a visual storytelling practice I call Modern Glyphics—a contemporary form of symbolic communication inspired by ancient pictographs, personal narratives, and collective experiences. Based in Nashville, Tennessee, my work transforms walls, public spaces, and community conversations into vibrant visual stories that celebrate connection, belonging, and shared humanity.
My journey into this work has been anything but traditional. Art has always been a way for me to process experiences, build relationships, and create meaning. Over the years, I discovered that the most powerful murals weren’t simply paintings—they were opportunities to bring people together. Whether I’m working with schoolchildren, neighborhood residents, healthcare organizations, businesses, or municipalities, the creative process becomes a vehicle for listening, learning, and collaboration.
Today, I provide large-scale murals, public art installations, creative placemaking projects, artist residencies, community engagement workshops, educational programming, and consulting services. My projects often involve gathering stories, ideas, and aspirations from participants and translating them into visual symbols that become part of the final artwork. The result is artwork that reflects not just my vision, but the voices of the people it represents.
One of the challenges many organizations face is creating authentic engagement and meaningful connections within their communities. Art can bridge differences, spark dialogue, and help people feel seen. My work helps clients transform blank walls into landmarks, strengthen community identity, activate public spaces, and create lasting opportunities for participation and pride.
What sets my work apart is the emphasis on process as much as product. While the finished mural is important, I believe the relationships built during its creation are equally valuable. Through Modern Glyphics, participants become co-authors of the story. Every symbol carries meaning, and every project becomes a visual archive of collective experience.
I am especially proud of the diverse communities I’ve had the privilege to work alongside—from students and educators to mental health advocates, nonprofit organizations, municipalities, and international cultural exchange programs. Some of the most meaningful moments happen when someone sees themselves reflected in a mural and realizes their story matters.
Beyond creating artwork, I am deeply committed to accessibility, inclusion, and creative empowerment. I believe everyone has a story worth telling and that art can be a powerful tool for healing, education, and transformation.
If there is one thing I want people to know about my brand and my work, it is this: art is not simply something to look at—it is something we create together. My murals are invitations to connect, to participate, and to recognize the beauty of our shared experiences. Through color, symbols, and storytelling, I strive to create spaces where people feel welcomed, valued, and inspired.
At its heart, my work is about community. It is about finding common ground, celebrating differences, and creating visual reminders that we are all connected.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
DO IT NOW!!!! i’ve lost so many wonderful people in the last handful of years, which has been tough. It is a big reminder to not wait for acceptance, invitations, feedback… Just go do stuff!

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Moments of connection while creatively making the dots that become my path.
