Amy K, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?

My coaching practice is all about authentic connection – my clients know they will never get a cookie cutter experience, I wrap my services around their wiring, values and who they BE. That includes my touch points that come from inspiration, reaching out in highly personal ways, in the moment. I know my clients feel seen, heard and valued.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

I am a growth & leadership coach! I seek out the true growers in the world & collaborate in a variety of ways including 1:1 coaching, workshops, group coaching & my podcast “The Growth Moment.”

I started coaching in 2002 after burning out in the dot com world (15 years building & running startups) and with post 9-11 clarity of purpose. I have mentored hundreds of individuals and teams in both the U.S. and Canada. My clients include organizations in technology, pharmaceutical, construction, finance, government, real estate, marketing, entertainment and non-profit sectors. My expertise benefits both leaders in just launching startups all the way up to C-Suite executives in public companies.

I am an ICF Professional Certified Coach (PCC) trained through the Coaches Training Institute and hold a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Pacifica Graduate Institute. My original background in computer science is layered with decades of work and training in communications, facilitation, strategic planning, management and leadership techniques.

I am known for my authenticity, infectious personality and tenacious coaching style. I have an uncanny ability to zero in on exactly what each client needs to move the needle personally and professionally. My ability to hold the focus, push accountable action and create clarity with my clients is powerful. I demand bold work from my clients that produces true transformation. I am a multiplier, always bringing immense value to my podcast listeners, group and workshop participants and 1:1 coaching clients.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?

Authenticity. Since 2002, I have built my clientele on fearless authenticity – both from myself & creating the space for the client’s authenticity as well. No BS. Going for the deep work – transformational, not transactional. Asking the questions that matter – never skimming the surface. The result is a wellspring of referrals & repeat business – the vast majority of my business comes from word of mouth. I made a choice to build my business MY way and I feel that authenticity radiates in every aspect of my work.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Like many people, COVID had a profound impact on my business. Prior to 2020, I was a highly comfortable solopreneur coach – working 20 to 25 hours a week, mainly 1:1 coaching clients over the phone, easy breezy. When COVID hit, I responded by doing over 100 gift sessions (no making bread for me). All of a sudden I was working with people from across the globe. Instead of the phone, it was all Zoom. My weeks were full time plus instead of half time. I started up coaching groups so I could expand my impact—working with everyone from college students to top executive clients. My podcast, The Growth Moment, and monthly public workshops were born of that surge of energy and passion to coach my heart out. I think this pivot embodies the coaching spirit of finding the opportunity in a crisis.
