We were lucky to catch up with Amy Dipre recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amy , appreciate you joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard.
What Studio 1060 delivers differently from the industry standard is the perfect balance of flexibility, affordability, and availability without sacrificing quality.
To start, we’ve renovated the space to a clean, neutral design that is beautiful as-is, but can also be customized to suit any even styling or decor. We put in place a flexible vendor policy that allows our guests to choose from one of our vetted and recommended vendors, but also have the freedom and flexibility to bring in their own vendor or provide their own catering and decor if that’s what they desire (what’s better than home cooked food at your event?!). Finally, we’ve made thoughtful choices about our location and furnishings that make it possible to offer competitive pricing while not sacrificing on quality.
We opened Studio 1060 after planning our own baby shower a few years ago. While searching for the perfect location, I kept running into the same problem of not finding a space that was easy to get in contact with, had a neutral/blank canvas kind of design, was affordable, and didn’t limit my options for catering and decor. I opened Studio 1060 to fill that need within the community and bring ease back to event planning for local families planning smaller, more intimate events.

Amy , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am passionate about service, family, and community. I’m a teacher by trade and had my son in 2021 during the pandemic. I, like many other people during that time, felt isolated from the outside world. I missed my community. I recognized a need for a modern, flexible, reasonably-priced gathering space in our local area after planning my baby shower in 2020, so I opened Studio 1060 to give the wider Central Florida community a place to gather with ease.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Anyone who has opened an event venue can tell you what a costly endeavor it is. I invested my new family’s life savings into this business. Knowing what I know now, I would have leveraged debt to make all of the improvements I wanted to make to the space upfront instead of making improvements along the way. This mistake became pretty costly.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson I had to unlearn is that working for yourself means “working whenever you want.”
While heading to a much needed vacation several months ago, I had to deal with a disaster left behind at my venue after my guests had a big party where there was smoking indoors. The clients who had the venue reserved for the following day were celebrating a wedding and the venue was left a disaster from that party the night before. I will never forget the stress of having to have difficult converstaions with that day’s clients and coordinate cleaning under a tight time limit while waiting for my flight for that trip.
What I learned is that while entreprenuership can be flexible in some areas, it also can mean never truly having a day off. Even when you put in place systems that automate your workflows, you’re always working in some capacity. Even if it’s just thinking about your business. It’s hard to turn that switch off.
