We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Amy Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Our little patch of Georgia farmland is at the heart of everything we do and, as farmers throughout the ages have known, you’ve got to treat the land right. Give to the soil and it will give back to you.
The fresher the food, the better it tastes and more enjoyable it is to eat. This is the philosophy we grew up with here on the farm, and it carries through to how we make our bourbon and bourbon prouducts.
At Doc Brown Farm, we use what we call ‘restorative farming’ techniques and traditional methods to grow our grains, resulting in bourbon that tastes better because it is farm fresh.
To take it a step more, we plant, raise, harvest, distill and barrel within a 12-month time period. This means our corn never sits in sacks or silos where its susceptible to weevils, mold and mildew. It doesn’t lose its oils or dry out with the climate and as a result of that, it maintains its distinctive flavor, which is such an important characteristic of our bourbon.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Our family’s journey began with a desire to grow non-GMO grains and create our own ‘family stash’ of bourbon for celebrations and special events. When we brought our Jimmy Red corn to the Master Distiller, we soon realized we had a unique opportunity to establish Georgia’s ONLY ‘Seed to Still’ farm.
With farming practices handed down through five generations and the integration of modern technology, we proudly became what we call ‘Farmstillers’—farmers and distillers dedicated to growing non-GMO grains from days gone by and crafting award-winning bourbon and bourbon products.
We are proud to be American Farmers and proud to be a Woman Led American Farming Family.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
We pride ourselves on being transparent in everything we do here at the farm. This means sharing both the good days and the not-so-good days. Social media often portrays a ‘perfect’ life where nothing goes wrong, and everyone looks flawless. However, as farmers, our daily reality is far from that ideal. We are committed to showing our wonderful audience not just our successes, awards, and wins, but also the hard days, flat tires, and setbacks.
With that transparency, it creates trust with our brand. One of our Motto’s is: Life Happens. Bourbon Helps.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about selling platforms like Amazon/Etsy vs selling on your own site.
