We were lucky to catch up with Amy Bishop recently and have shared our conversation below.
Amy, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
During my 200-hour yoga teacher training, I was tasked with creating a business name. Seeking a versatile and inclusive identity, I aimed for a name that would encompass all eight limbs of yoga. Yoga’s applicability to various aspects of life inspired me to choose a name that could support my business’s growth in multiple directions. After careful consideration, I settled on ‘Yoga Life with Amy.’ This name reflects my intention to teach the full spectrum of yoga practices and connect people to the transformative power of this ancient discipline.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Following a medical diagnosis, I was advised to reduce my stress levels. After careful consideration with my husband, I decided to transition away from my corporate interior design career. Seeking a suitable form of exercise, I discovered yoga, which aligned with my doctor’s recommendations. The numerous benefits I derived from yoga inspired me to share this transformative practice with others. Consequently, I completed a yoga teacher training program in May 2020.
My passion lies in guiding individuals towards a more balanced and fulfilling life through movement, mobility, flexibility, and balance. What sets me apart is my dedication to personalized and accessible wellness, ensuring that everyone can benefit from these practices, regardless of their starting point. I take great pride in helping others uncover their unique path to wellness, as I did through my own personal health journey.
I am particularly committed to assisting individuals in aging gracefully through movement and energy work. My offerings include private one-on-one and small group sessions, conveniently conducted in the comfort of your home, workplace, or any desired location. Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
The early stages of my journey were undeniably challenging, yet I persevered for the sake of my health. Yoga became a beacon of hope amidst the turmoil following my mother’s untimely passing from a similar medical condition. When I was subsequently diagnosed with the same illness, my doctor advised me to reduce stress and avoid certain forms of exercise. Overwhelmed by confusion and uncertainty, I recalled my mother’s prior yoga practice. Recognizing its suitability, I began practicing at home through online videos, initially hesitant to join a class. As my confidence grew, I ventured into YMCA group classes, where I discovered the profound benefits of consistent yoga practice beyond physical health.
Inspired by my own transformative experience, I became a yoga teacher. Throughout my years of teaching, I have been deeply touched by the countless stories of students whose lives have been positively impacted by yoga. Their gratitude and the way my journey has inspired them serve as a constant reminder of the power of yoga. Had I succumbed to feelings of loss and confusion, I would have missed the opportunity to become a yoga teacher and help countless individuals. This experience has instilled in me a profound belief in my own strength, courage, and resilience. I have learned that even the most challenging times can provide valuable lessons. For me, the lesson was that I possess the strength, bravery, and determination to navigate life’s ups and downs.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
For much of my life, I struggled with excessive worry and anxiety. I often found myself reacting impulsively to situations, followed by periods of self-doubt and regret. My thoughts were frequently consumed by negative possibilities and future uncertainties. Through my yoga practice, I gained a deeper understanding of the importance of being present. By focusing on the present moment and acknowledging my limited control over the future and others, I gradually learned to calm my mind. I have practiced reminding myself, “I do not have control over others or the future. I release these feelings and thoughts.” Over several years of consistent practice, I have significantly reduced my worry and developed the ability to release negative emotions and embrace the present. This newfound freedom from control and anxiety has not only alleviated mental stress but has also released physical tension that I had previously held onto.
