We recently connected with Amber Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Amber, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
I learned to do what I do by dedicating my free time to writing, simply because I loved it. The more I wrote, the more I grew, and that growth has been a continuous journey spanning about ten years. Even now, I’m not chasing perfection, I’m trying to chase my progress.
If I could go back and tell my younger self one thing, it would be to not be afraid to share your work. Putting your work out there opens the door to honest, constructive feedback, and it connects you with others who share your passion! Both of those things can accelerate your growth in ways that working in alone cannot.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Amber, and I am a poet/indie author with over ten years of dedication to writing. What started as something I did purely for the love of it has grown into a purposeful practice, one I’m proud to now share!
My work explores various themes of identity, love, loss, healing, and social justice. I write for those who feel unseen, for the one carrying something they haven’t yet found words for. My goal is to give language to experiences that often go unspoken reminding people that what they feel is valid and shared.
I have a debut work currently in progress, and everything I’ve learned and lived over the past decade is going into it! What I want readers and future audience to know most is when you engage with my work, my hope is that you walk away feeling understood.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is rooted in connection. I want to continue sharing my creativity and personal experiences in a way that can reach people where they are, through the rawness of lived experience and the power of storytelling. My hope is that anyone who engages with my work finds solace in knowing they are not alone, and that there is strength in allowing yourself to be vulnerable.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
A few years ago, a poem from my first book, published in 2023, went viral on Instagram. It was an incredible moment, but it came with a side of the internet I wasn’t prepared for. Alongside the love, there were cruel messages telling me my work wasn’t good enough and that I should stop writing. And for a while, it worked. Something I genuinely loved like sharing my poetry online, started to feel like a source of anxiety. I became hesitant, second-guessing every post and dreading how people would respond.
But after stepping back and giving myself space to breathe, something shifted. I realized I had been writing for approval. The truth is, I can’t force anyone to connect with my work, and I learned that’s okay. What matters is that I believe in it and that there is a possibility my words can land in the heart of someone who needed it.
Again, I’m not writing for approval. I’m writing to inspire.
